  • Tyler Holton RP | DET

Tigers' Tyler Holton: Records another save

Holton worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Holton has been seeing more save opportunities lately, as this was his third since Aug. 26, and he now has seven saves for the season. Jason Foley leads the team with 20 saves, but Holton has clearly emerged as a co-closing option in Detroit. The lefty's fantasy stock appears to be on the rise.

  • Rangers' Gerson Garabito: Tabbed for Friday start

Garabito is listed as the Rangers' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Angels.

Garabito has bounced between Triple-A Round Rock and the majors this season, and he was recalled Tuesday. He threw two-thirds of an inning that the same day, but he has a few multi-inning appearances in the majors and has worked as a traditional starter in the minors. As a result, Garabito should be able to provide more length than a typical opening pitcher, though the Rangers could elect to Jose Urena or Chase Anderson in bulk relief, if needed.

  • Joey Wentz SP | ATL

Pirates' Joey Wentz: Activated by Pirates

The Pirates activated Wentz on Thursday after he was claimed off waivers Tuesday from the Tigers.

Wentz was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday, but finds himself back on an active roster Thursday. In his last seven appearances, he has pitched 10.1 innings and had shutout outings in all but one of them. The one blemish in the stretch was when he gave up four earned in one inning against the Cubs on Aug. 22. To make room for Wentz on the active roster, Domingo German was designated for assignment Thursday.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Grabs 25th save

Diaz picked up the save Thursday against Houston, striking out one without allowing any hits or walks.

Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save since Aug. 13, ending a streak of eight straight appearances without a save. The 27-year-old pitched to a 7.36 ERA over those prior eight outings, but he's now pitched clean innings in back-to-back appearances. With his 25th save of the season, Diaz becomes the sixth reliever with 25 or more saves in each of the last two seasons.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Picks up 22nd save

Duran got the save in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rays, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Duran entered the game to protect a one-run lead, and he struck out the first two batters he faced and then induced a weak grounder to end it. Following a rough stretch in August, Duran has been better as of late with four straight clean outings in which he's only allowed one hit and racked up four saves in the process. The 26-year-old closer is now 22-for-24 in save opportunities this season with a 3.45 ERA.

  • Evan Justice RP | COL

Rockies' Evan Justice: Back in minors

The Rockies optioned Justice to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Justice will head back to the minors just four days after joining the big club and recording one out in his season debut Sunday. The 26-year-old southpaw owns a 9.90 ERA through 20 innings at Albuquerque, though he's surrendered just one earned run across his last six minor-league appearances. Jaden Hill was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Sean Reid-Foley: Moved to 60-day IL

The Mets transferred Reid-Foley (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Jose Azocar. Reid-Foley had already been ruled out for the season with his right shoulder injury.

  • Jose Cuas RP | KC

Blue Jays' Jose Cuas: Cast off 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Cuas for assignment Thursday.

Cuas will end up as the odd man out of Toronto's 40-man roster after the team claimed Emmanuel Ramirez off waivers from Miami on Thursday. The 30-year-old Cuas owns a 7.71 ERA and 1.78 WHIP across 16.1 innings between the Cubs and Blue Jays this season, and his minor-league performance hasn't been much better (6.67 ERA through 27 IP).

  • Zach Logue RP | LAD

    Zach Logue: Enters free agency

Logue elected to become a free agent Thursday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Logue was jettisoned from Atlanta's 40-man roster Sunday, and he'll now have the opportunity to sign with another team after going unclaimed off waivers. The 28-year-old southpaw has posted a 2.68 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 90.2 innings in Triple-A this season and could be an attractive option for teams in need of organizational pitching depth.

  • Brady Basso RP | ATH

Athletics' Brady Basso: Recalled from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.

Basso will give the bullpen some length. The left-hander has made three appearances for Oakland this season, allowing two runs over 3.1 innings.
