  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Activated from paternity leave

San Francisco activated Walker from the paternity list Tuesday.

Walker will return to the Giants' bullpen mix Tuesday night in Philadelphia after welcoming a new addition to his growing family. The 27-year-old right-hander has posted a stellar 2.23 ERA and 50:13 K:BB across his first 44.1 major-league innings this season.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

    Reds' Tejay Antone: Rehab extended

Antone (elbow) agreed Sunday to extend his rehab assignment an additional 10 days, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

After opening his rehab assignment July 25, Antone was nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, but MLB rules will allow him to extend the assignment because he's working his way back from August 2021 Tommy John surgery. Antone was initially expected to be fully cleared for spring training, but those plans were thwarted when he suffered a right flexor strain while rehabbing over the winter. He appears to have steered clear of any further setbacks since he started throwing again in April, and he's turned in respectable results thus far during his rehab assignment. In seven appearances at Triple-A Louisville, Antone has given up four earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven over 7.1 innings.

  • Jacob Barnes RP | TOR

Cardinals' Jacob Barnes: Added to roster

The Cardinals selected Barnes' contract from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Barnes has spent all of this season at the Triple-A level, collecting a 2.47 ERA and 45:22 K:BB over 51 innings at three different stops. The 33-year-old reliever will provide a fresh arm to a Cards' bullpen that's been overworked.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Begins rehab assignment

Treinen (shoulder) began a rehab assignment Tuesday in the Arizona Complex League, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Treinen has been sidelined all year following offseason shoulder surgery, but he's on the right track now with a return to live appearances in the ACL. In his rehab debut Tuesday, he retired the side in order on two strikeouts and a flyout. The veteran reliever could become an option for the Dodgers' bullpen sometime around early-to-mid September if he continues to prove his health and effectiveness on the farm.

  • Tim Hill RP | NYY

Padres' Tim Hill: Throwing simulated game

Hill (finger) will throwing a simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Assuming he gets out of the session with no complications, Hill should be cleared to resume a rehab assignment. The left-handed reliever won't require too many rehab appearances before being activated, so a late-August return is on the table.

  • Keaton Winn RP | SF

Giants' Keaton Winn: Back in action at Triple-A

Winn (elbow) was reinstated from Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list Saturday and gave up five earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings in his return to action against Tacoma.

Winn was sidelined for just a month due to right elbow soreness. The right-hander made five appearances (two starts) with the Giants earlier in 2023 but will likely need to enjoy a sustained run of success at Sacramento before garnering another look with the big club.

  • Phil Bickford RP | DET

Mets' Phil Bickford: Nabs first win with new team

Bickford (3-4) gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.1 scoreless relief innings Monday to pick up the win in a 10-4 victory over Atlanta.

Starter David Peterson failed to last five innings, and Bickford took over from the southpaw with the Mets already ahead 7-4 to get credit for the win. It's his first victory in 10 appearances since joining New York at the beginning of August, but his 8.38 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 9.2 innings for his new team will keep him in a low-leverage role.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Giants' Sean Manaea: Saddled with fourth loss

Manaea (4-4) took the loss Monday against the Phillies. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings.

Manaea was slated for a bulk role behind Scott Alexander on Monday, though he'd only last 2.2 innings after surrendering three runs on a pair of homers. The 31-year-old Manaea had been pitching well coming into the day, allowing just one run over his last 15 innings. Overall, his ERA is up to 5.06 with a 1.28 WHIP and 102:33 K:BB across 83.2 innings this season.

  • Thomas Hatch RP | ARI

Pirates' Thomas Hatch: Strong showing as opener

Hatch did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two hits and one walk over three scoreless innings against St. Louis. He struck out one.

Hatch served as Pittsburgh's opener Monday, after he had exclusively pitched out of the bullpen this year for both the Blue Jays and Pirates. The 28-year-old righty fired three scoreless frames and handed the ball off to Bailey Falter, who operated as the team's bulk reliever. In four appearances since Hatch was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh on Aug. 6, he has posted a 1.93 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with two holds across 9.1 innings.

  • Ryan Weathers SP | NYY

Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Shelled by former club

Weathers (1-8) took the loss against San Diego on Monday, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings.

Weathers made his second start since the Padres traded him to Miami on Aug. 1, but neither outing has gone well. The southpaw has had trouble finding the strike zone in each outing, walking four batters against Texas on Aug. 5 and five versus San Diego on Monday. The walks were particularly harmful in the second inning, as Weathers loaded the bases on three straight one-out free passes before serving up a grand slam to Ha-Seong Kim. Weathers has surrendered 11 runs over seven frames while taking a pair of losses in two starts since joining Miami, making it hard to see him continuing in the rotation with the team still battling for a wild-card spot.
