The Padres recalled reliever Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson Sunday, according to U-T San Diego. Boxberger is 0-3 with a 5.73 ERA in 17 relief appearances at Triple-A. 

Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel threw a spotless ninth inning Sunday for his 17th save.

Kimbrel has a 2.01 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 23 appearances, striking out 30 in 20 1/3 innings while walking five.

Pirates starter Jeanmar Gomez was removed from Sunday's start against Cincinnati due to right forearm tightness, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Gomez lasted just one inning. He allowed four runs on four hits and a walk. Consider him day to day for now.

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman worked his way around a walk and a base hit as he notched his 14th save of the season Saturday night against the Pirates.

Chapman has converted his last six saves since blowing back-to-back opportunities for the Reds. He has a 2.52 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in 27 appearances.

The Padres recalled reliever Tommy Layne from Triple-A Tuscon prior to Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. Layne is 1-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 20 appearances at Triple-A.

Mets pitcher Collin McHugh filled in for an injured Jonathon Niese Saturday against the Marlins in his first start of the season. 

McHugh struggled with the usually quiet Marlins, allowing four runs on six hits in four innings. He struggled to throw strikes, walking three batters and striking out just one, while throwing 44 of 69 pitches for strikes. 

McHugh took the loss in an 8-1 final, dropping his record to 0-1. He is unlikely to get another starting opportunity, as Niese is expected to miss just the one start with shoulder tendinitis. 

Cardinals starting pitcher Shelby Miller snapped a three-game winless streak Saturday against the Giants.

Miller struck out seven and walked just one over seven shutout innings, his first quality start in four outings. He allowed just six hits in the game, and only one of them went for extra bases.

Miller is 6-3 on the season with a 1.82 ERA. He will try to continue his momentum Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. 

Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson will make at least two minor-league rehab starts, beginning Tuesday in Double-A Mobile, before the team considers calling him up. According to the Arizona Republic, manager Kirk Gibson will re-evaluate Hudson after his second start, June 10, and then determine a possible return to the majors.

Hudson has been out since June 2012 after having Tommy John Surgery.  

Friday's series' opener between the Giants and Cardinals was postponed due to a severe storm system making its way near Busch Stadium. The game will be made up Saturday with a day-night doubleheader. Friday's starters Shelby Miller and Matt Cain will take the mound for the first game. 

Mets reliever Collin McHugh will get a chance to start this weekend, as Jonathon Niese has been scratched from his start Saturday against the Marlins.

McHugh has appeared in two games this season as a reliever, allowing four runs in three innings. He was starting at Triple-A New Orleans prior to his call up, posting a 2.74 ERA in 49 1/3 innings.
