Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson was scratched for Saturday's start because of a blister on his throwing hand, the team announced. Kyle Lohse, who was initially scheduled to start Sunday, will make the start in his place on Saturday. Matt Garza has been pushed to Sunday.

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman worked past a minor hamstring tweak and picked up the save Thursday night in Miami. Chapman struck out one and issued a walk in a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 3-1 victory. He has converted 24 saves in 26 attempts, with a 2.10 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP over 34 1/3 innings of relief.

Cardinals starting pitcher Shelby Miller (8-8) tossed a quality start and got back to .500, leading his team past the Padres on Thursday. The right-hander permitted two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings of a 6-2 victory. Home runs to Jed Gyorko and Wil Venable proved to be the only damage.

Over his last two starts covering 11 2/3 innings, Miller has allowed only four earned runs. He owns a 4.14 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 121 2/3 innings. He will make his next start Wednesday at home against Boston.

The Nationals have recalled pitcher Blake Treinen from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the vacant spot on their active roster Thursday.

Treinen has a 2.29 ERA in 35 1/3 innings for the Nationals this season, but might not be long for the team, with Asdrubal Cabrera expected to join the team Friday.  

The Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Joe Kelly and outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig from the Cardinals Thursday in exchange for starting pitcher John Lackey, according to baseball analyst Peter Gammons.

Cardinals starting pitcher Joe Kelly suffered his first loss in four starts since coming off the disabled list Wednesday at San Diego. However, he's struggled for the most part since his activation despite the one loss. 

The right-hander has posted a 7.32 ERA over his last four starts, and Kelly said his struggles have been related to poor command of his fastball, per MLB.com.

"It's running a lot," Kelly said of the pitch. "It's just something that I have to learn how to control here and be better at next time. I've been throwing good offspeed pitches, I feel, in all these games. My curveball was my best pitch (Wednesday). I should have thrown it 100 times. But you can't do that, obviously. It definitely all starts with the fastball."

Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen blew a save opportunity Wednesday, giving up one earned run on one hit in one inning of action in his team's 3-2 win over the Braves.

Jansen hadn't allowed an earned run in 13 appearances going into Wednesday's game, but he served up a game-tying home run to Justin Upton to lead off the inning. He was able to retire the next three batters, though he didn't strike out any of them. Jansen owns a 3.27 ERA and 68:13 K:BB ratio in 44 innings.

Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly took a loss Wednesday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings and striking out four in his team's 12-1 defeat against the Padres.

Kelly (2-2) gave up runs in the first, third and fourth innings as he turned in his second straight disappointing outing, giving up nine earned runs in 9 2/3 innings over his last two starts. He owns a 4.37 ERA and 25:10 K:BB ratio in 35 innings. Kelly is scheduled to face the Red Sox Tuesday, but a last-minute trade acquisition could knock him out of the rotation.

Rockies pitcher Adam Ottavino gave up one hit and struck out one in a scoreless 10th inning Wednesday to earn his first career save in his team's 6-4 win over the Cubs.

Ottavino was the pitcher of choice for the opportunity after LaTroy Hawkins tossed two innings in Tuesday's 16-inning marathon. He owns a 3.80 ERA and 49:12 K:BB ratio in 47 1/3 innings.

Pirates pitcher Justin Wilson was charged with a loss Wednesday, surrendering two earned runs on two hits and one walk in one inning and striking out one in his team's 7-5 defeat against the Giants.

Wilson (3-2) gave up an RBI single in the seventh inning to tie the game before watching the go-ahead run come home on a passed ball. He owns a 4.95 ERA and 41:23 K:BB ratio in 40 innings.
