  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Dodgers' Yimi Garcia: Undergoes knee surgery

Garcia (biceps/knee) underwent right knee surgery Wednesday to remove small bone fragments, Ken Gurnick of MLB.comreports.

Garcia of course is already out for the year with a triceps injury, so this doesn't affect his timetable. The team will hope he's ready for spring training next season.

  • Chris Rusin RP | COL

Rockies' Chris Rusin: Performing well since coming off DL

Rusin holds a 3.72 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 8.4 K/9 over 19.1 innings since coming off the disabled list in late July.

Rusin has performed much better as a reliever this season than as a starter, but the increased strikeout rate certainly comes as a surprise for a hurler with a career K/9 of 6.0. The most impressive metric is the fact that the left-hander hasn't allowed a home run at Coors Field since returning. If he can keep this up, he'll have a good chance of garnering a larger role in the Rockies pitching staff going forward into next season, especially if his success transfers into his starts.

  • Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Scheduled to start Friday

De La Rosa (elbow) is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Giants, Jack Magruder of Fanrag Sports reports.

This is great news for De La Rosa and for the Diamondbacks, as the young starter had been on the disabled list since late-May with this elbow injury. The right-hander is expected to be on a strict pitch limit, so his upside for Friday's tilt is fairly limited, but it's good to see De La Rosa get back into game action before the season's conclusion.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Delivers another perfect save

Jansen struck out one in a clean ninth Wednesday against Arizona for save No. 43 of the season.

He just keeps on cruising along, having allowed only a single baserunner in four September appearances. Jansen and O's closer Zach Britton remain in a cross-country duel for the league's most impressive relief stats -- Britton owns an insane 0.65 ERA, but Jansen owns a matching (and even insaner) 0.65 WHIP.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Gains first MLB win

Stewart (1-2) held the Diamondbacks to a single run on five hits and two walks over five innings Wednesday. He struck out just one en route to his first MLB win.

The early returns haven't generally been impressive for Stewart, but he's allowed just two runs in his last 13 innings after being blown up for 14 runs over nine frames in his first two MLB appearances. That 19:11 K:BB isn't extremely promising, but the 24-year-old righty posted sick stats -- a 2.01 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 129:19 K:BB -- over the course of his meteoric rise through the minors this year. However, he's not assured a slot in the rotation moving forward, as this was just a spot start.

  • Jose De Leon RP | BOS

Dodgers' Jose De Leon: Returning to rotation

De Leon will return to the rotation at some point during next week's three-game series against the Yankees, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

De Leon will presumably take the rotation spot of Scott Kazmir, though the club has yet to make it official. Kazmir suffered an oblique or rib injury during a rehab outing late Wednesday night, and he had been tentatively scheduled to rejoin the rotation the following Tuesday. Now that it's looking like the lefty will be unavailable, De Leon seems like the primary fill-in option. The 24-year-old cashed in a quality start in his MLB debut, allowing three earned runs and striking out nine over six frames against the Padres.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Recalled to start Wednesday

Stewart was officially recalled to start Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The excellent control that Stewart displayed in the upper levels of the minors (3.1 percent K-rate at Triple-A) was not apparent in his first four appearances in the big leagues. His 11.3 percent walk rate across 17 MLB innings will need to be trimmed going forward if he wants to serve as a solid back-end starter for the Dodgers. In the short term, Wednesday's outing is likely just a spot start, as the Dodgers have quite a few more accomplished options at the ready.

  • Cubs' Duane Underwood: Returns from undisclosed injury

Underwood is active with High-A Myrtle Beach after rehabbing an undisclosed injury with the AZL Cubs in August.

Underwood started a game for Myrtle Beach earlier this month, allowing one run on three hits with zero walks and two strikeouts over 4.2 innings, as he is apparently over the undisclosed ailment that kept him sidelined for almost all of July and half of August. Underwood's prospect stock has taken a hit with concerns about his workload, his ability to throw strikes, and his strikeout potential. He'll likely begin 2017 with Double-A Tennessee, aiming to improve upon the 4.91 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 46:31 K:BB he posted in 58.2 innings with that affiliate this season.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Roughed up by Dodgers

Miller (2-11) gave up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits over just 4.1 innings in a loss Tuesday to the Dodgers.

After a quality start in his return to the rotation last time out, Miller reverted to the same struggles he was having before his demotion. He managed just four swinging strikes in 90 pitches as opponents read him like a book all day long. His ERA is up to 6.89 to go with a poor 55:35 K:BB.

  • Mark Melancon RP | ARI

Nationals' Mark Melancon: Shaky again but earns 39th save

Melancon gave up another run Tuesday, this one on two hits in a save situation although he still held on for the save 9-7.

Melancon gave up a pair of runs on four hits the night before in a non-save situation, and followed that up with another earned run Tuesday. Melancon had given up just one earned run since July 19 prior to Monday, and still has a 1.70 ERA and 0.98 WHIP despite the rough stretch. He now has 39 saves, tied for fourth in the majors in 2016.
