Montero went 4.1 innings while allowing three runs on three hits and four walks, striking out four against the Reds on Tuesday.

Montero was recalled from Double-A to fill in for an ailing Jacob DeGrom, and pitched alright considering the circumstances. Montero didn't pitch long enough to earn the win, but he kept the Mets in the game, which they eventually won 5-3. Montero has struggled mightily with his command in his two major league starts this season, walking 10 batters over 9.1 innings. It looks like Montero will retain a rotation spot for now, although he'll likely lose it once either DeGrom or Steven Matz is healthy again.

Gomez threw a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts and a walk en route to picking up his 35th save.

Gomez's 3.39 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 63.2 innings for the season represent a non-ideal stat line for a fantasy closer, especially as he's allowed a baserunner in 11 of his last 15 outings. But he keeps finding ways to convert save opportunities -- 35 out of 39 on the season -- so he needs to be given proper consideration in fantasy lineups.

De La Rosa (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list this weekend, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.

De La Rosa is not ready to pitch just yet, but he has rejoined the Diamondbacks, so it should not be long before he comes off the disabled list and rejoins the active roster.

Leone was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

He posted a 7.52 ERA and 2.26 WHIP in 20.1 innings out of the big league bullpen earlier this year, and should serve as a low-leverage relief arm over the final month of the season.

Reyes will move back to the bullpen, FOX Sports Midwest reports.

The Cardinals will turn to Mike Leake to take the ball Wednesday, so Reyes' time in the rotation is over for now. He is right there with Nationals phenom Lucas Giolito as one of the top two pitching prospects in the game, and he has been dominant as both a starter and reliever so far in the big leagues. Reyes has not allowed a run while striking out 13 in 9.1 innings of relief this year, making him a valuable option in roto formats despite the fact he won't be recording saves.

The Diamondbacks activated Chafin (shoulder) from the disabled list Tuesday.

Chafin's recovery from his shoulder injury was slowed by a subsequent groin injury, but he has overcome both ailments and is ready to rejoin the big club. Chafin figures to work situationally and in middle relief the rest of the way.

The Brewers called up Magnifico from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

Magnifico made his big-league debut with the Brewers earlier this season, and the club decided to add him to the bullpen mix for the season's final month. Magnifico will compete for a spot in the Brewers' bullpen next spring, so he will get to use September as an audition.

Mayers was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Mayers was solid as a starter for the Redbirds this season, posting a 3.73 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 16 starts, so he'll get another shot at the big league level now that the rosters have expanded. The right-hander's major league debut this summer was a sour one, as he coughed up nine earned runs over an inning and one-third, but he'll look to improve upon that as he enters the St. Louis bullpen for the stretch run.

Edgin will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

Edgin failed to crack the Mets' 25-man roster out of spring training while he recovered from Tommy John surgery and wasn't effective when he did make his return to the big leagues earlier this season. Over 3.2 innings with the Mets, Edgin has been tagged for four runs on three hits and four walks. Don't expect him to see much high-leverage work down the stretch.

Maurer threw a scoreless ninth for his eighth save Monday against the Red Sox.

Since picking up his first save July 1 against the Yankees, Maurer has converted all but one of his nine save opportunities with an 18:5 K:BB in 23.1 innings. His 6.9 K/9 is well below the typical closer mark, but he has a vicious enough sinker to avoid the home run ball (just one allowed as closer), and that has made him effective enough to put up a respectable showing in the role thus far.
