Holmes was called up Monday to replace Joe Musgrove, who went to the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder injury, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Holmes joined the Pirates as the 26th man for their Sunday doubleheader against the Tigers but did not get the opportunity to make his major-league debut. Musgrove's stay on the DL could be short, but Holmes should at least receive his first major-league action at some point in the next week. The 25-year-old is a potential future back-end starter who posted a 3.36 ERA in 112.2 innings for Triple-A Indianapolis last season, though his stay on the roster is likely to be short, barring further injuries, which limits his fantasy relevance. Holmes could receive Musgrove's scheduled start on April 5, though it's more likely that the opportunity goes to Steven Brault or possibly Tyler Glasnow.

The Pirates optioned Holmes to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Holmes was recalled from Indianapolis to offer the Pirates some length out of the bullpen for the team's doubleheader Sunday against the Tigers, but he ended up going unused in both halves of the twin bill. He'll now resume preparation for a starting role with Indianapolis this season after going 10-5 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across 112.2 innings with the Triple-A club in 2017.

Leone fired a scoreless ninth inning in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Mets, allowing a hit while recording two strikeouts.

Leone was slated to share closing duties with lefty Tyler Lyons to open the season, but the recent signing of Greg Holland, who's currently prepping for the season in the minors, has altered those plans. The 26-year-old right-hander is still expected to see a solid allotment of late-inning work, but save chances are likely to be difficult to come by, especially considering that Luke Gregerson (hamstring) -- who has plenty of closing experience, as well -- will eventually be another potential impediment to ninth-inning opportunities.

Barraclough struck out two in a perfect ninth inning during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Cubs.

The flamethrowing righty is off to a good start to the season, posting a 4:1 K:BB through two innings without allowing a run. Marlins closer Brad Ziegler is already looking shaky, and if manager Don Mattingly decides to make a change, Barraclough seems like the top candidate to replace the veteran in save situations.

Bowman notched his first hold of the season in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Mets, firing two scoreless innings in which he allowed a hit and recorded two strikeouts.

He'd had a rude introduction to 2018 at the hands of the Mets on Opening Day, allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk over just a third of an inning. Sunday's effort was therefore a stark and welcome departure and gave the Cardinals a valuable bridge through the sixth and seventh innings after starter Luke Weaver got the hook following a 92-pitch tally through five. Bowman is likely to be called upon for similar multi-inning stints throughout the season, given the ability he's demonstrated in such a role over his first two major-league campaigns.

Peters (1-0) tossed six shutout innings while earning the win Sunday against the Cubs, allowing five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Peters made his season debut after joining the club up from Triple-A New Orleans, tossing a gem as he kept a capable Cubs lineup off balance. He threw 63 percent of his pitches for strikes and got eight groundball outs. Peters' strong showing in this one should earn him another go in the rotation next Sunday against the Phillies, when he will look to stake his claim to a permanent spot.

Iglesias was reinstated from the paternity list prior to Sunday's matchup against the Nationals.

Iglesias has not yet had an opportunity to pitch in a game while away from the team, but the Reds haven't had a save opportunity in either of their first two games. Should one arise Sunday, look for Iglesias, the presumed closer, to get the call.

Richards will be recalled by the Marlins on Monday to start against the Red Sox, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

With back-to-back contests seeing extra innings for the Marlins, they were in need of a slight, early season rotation shakeup. Richards seemed like the logical candidate, as he allowed just one earned run across 12 innings this spring, with nine strikeouts and a 1.17 WHIP. The 24-year-old has been progressing quickly, as he finished last season at the Double-A level, where he posted a 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 75.1 innings. Despite starting Monday, however, he won't be a candidate for a two-start week, as the team has two days off in the upcoming lineup period.

Ellington (biceps) was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Sunday.

Ellington was sent to Triple-A just days before the season, which was more of a formality because he has been shut down due to biceps tendinitis. The team will now require his spot on the 40-man roster to make room for an extra arm, and chose to DFA him as opposed to moving him to the 60-day DL. He appears to be a likely candidate to continue his rehab within the organization.

Suter (1-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Padres, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings.

While he only issued the one free pass, Suter wasn't particularly sharp in his first outing of the season as he threw only 49 of 83 pitches for strikes, resulting in an early exit. The left-hander will look to tighten things up when he next takes the mound Thursday at home against the Cubs.
