Suarez is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks following Johnny Cueto's (ankle) placement on the 10-day disabled list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The Giants recalled reliever Steven Okert from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding transaction Tuesday for the DL move, so Suarez hasn't officially been added to the club's 40-man roster yet. That's expected to happen Wednesday shortly before first pitch at 3:45 p.m. EDT, putting the 25-year-old in line for his first MLB outing. Considered the organization's top left-handed pitching prospect, Suarez could be in line for additional starts beyond Wednesday, even though manager Bruce Bochy expressed optimism that Cueto would be back next week. The Giants still have two other starting pitchers -- Madison Bumgarner (hand) and Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) -- on the DL, so one of Suarez or Tyler Beede could maintain a rotation spot once Cueto is activated.

Beede went four innings in his major-league debut Tuesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking five and striking out three against Arizona. He did not factor into the decision.

Beede was called up from Triple-A and got the nod against Arizona. While he limited the Diamondbacks' potent offense to two runs, he exited the contest after throwing 87 pitches through just four innings and issuing five walks. It wasn't a disastrous debut and he's supposed to see one more start on Sunday, but Beede is probably going back to the minors when Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) returns from the disabled list.

Jansen got the save against the Athletics on Tuesday, yielding no hits in two-thirds of an inning, striking out one with no walks to close out the Dodgers' 4-0 victory.

After a worrisome pair of appearances to start the season that saw him give up four earned runs and get tagged with a loss and a blown save, Jansen managed his third straight scoreless appearance and second straight converted save opportunity against Oakland. His 7.71 ERA and 1.50 WHIP still look ugly due to the rough start, but if Jansen is truly back to his best-closer-in-baseball form, those numbers should start to gravitate back towards his normal levels as his innings pile up.

Hand got his second save in as many days against the Rockies on Tuesday, throwing a scoreless ninth inning and giving up one hit without a walk or strikeout to close out San Diego's 5-2 victory.

Hand seems to have settled down after an erratic start to the year that saw him collect two losses and a blown save, with Tuesday's clean ninth inning against Colorado marking his third straight appearance in which he successfully procured a save. He's struck out five batters against one walk and allowed just one hit over that stretch, so if that's a sign his early-season struggles are indeed a thing of the past, Hand's grasp on the role in San Diego figures to remain secure.

Okert was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.

The lefty will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday as he takes the roster spot of Johnny Cueto, who was placed on the DL with an ankle sprain. Okert started the year down at Triple-A and has made two appearances at Sacramento, notching six strikeouts over 2.1 scoreless innings. It could be a short stint for him, however, as the Giants need to add a starter to take Cueto's place in the rotation on Wednesday.

Melancon (elbow) has yet to resume throwing, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The closer's potential mid-April return seems to be off the table with Tuesday's news that he's still not throwing. Melancon has been on the shelf since the start of the season with a flexor strain in his pitching elbow. Hunter Strickland has been excellent in the closer's role to start the year and figures to remain in that position while Melancon is sidelined.

Okert is in the Giants' clubhouse and will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday if Johnny Cueto (ankle) is placed on the 10-day disabled list, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "Okert is here if we make a move today," said manager Bruce Bochy.

Cueto is battling an ankle injury that will likely preclude him from starting Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. With that, Okert is available as an extra arm out of the bullpen Tuesday should the Giants opt to place Cueto on the disabled list. That said, it'd likely be a short stay for Okert considering that the Giants would need to make another roster move to activate a starter for Wednesday. There will be more clarity on Okert's status once the Giants make a decision on Cueto.

Cueto is reportedly a candidate to land on the disabled list after suffering a minor ankle injury over the weekend, so the Giants would need a replacement Wednesday. The Giants have yet to make any official roster moves, but Suarez is in the Giants' clubhouse and would likely get the nod if Cueto is ultimately placed on the disabled list. Suarez is considered one of the top arms in the Giants' system and has made one start at Triple-A this season where he tossed 4.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. He did walk four hitters in that outing, however. There will be more clarity on his situation once the Giants make a decision on Cueto.

Rainey's contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Rainey has just two innings under his belt at the Triple-A level, but he hasn't allowed a run and holds a 5:1 K:BB. He also drew raves reviews from manager Bryan Price during spring training, so it's not surprising to see him in the big leagues already. He should slot into lower-leverage situations to start, but it's not crazy to think he could find his way into high-leverage situations if he finds success in the majors. Yovani Gallardo was designated for assignment to make room for him on the active roster.

Hoffman (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lancaster on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander has been out since early March with this injury, but it seems like he's progressing nicely in his rehab program. Given his absence, Hoffman will likely require a few starts in the minors in order to build back up to a starter's workload. After that, he'll push for a major-league rotation spot.
