Neris allowed one hit while striking out two in a scoreless inning against the Reds on Monday en route to his first save of the season.

Jake Thompson got a three-inning save in the team's 20-1 thrashing of Miami on Saturday, but this was the team's first ninth-inning save opportunity. Neris got the call, and while he needed 22 pitches to retire the side, he got the job done. It's clear that Neris is the preferred option to close, and nobody in the bullpen right now represents a major threat to his role -- both Tommy Hunter (hamstring) and Pat Neshek (shoulder) are on the DL.

Almonte was removed from his Opening Day start with Triple-A Albuquerque due to a nerve problem in his right elbow, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Elbow injuries are always a bit concerning, but big-league manager Bud Black says there's no need to worry. Almonte has dealt with this problem before and is only expected to miss just a few starts. No firm timetable for his return has been released at this point, but it seems like his best-case scenario is an early-May return.

Hader threw 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out four batters in Monday's victory over the Cardinals.

Hader walked the first batter he faced Monday, but he was unhittable after that, striking out the next three batters in the seventh inning and the first of the eighth. It does not appear Hader will see save opportunities while Corey Knebel (hamstring) is sidelined -- manager Craig Counsell said as much last week -- but he is still providing fantasy value in other areas, allowing just four runners to reach base over 6.1 innings (0.63 WHIP) while punching out 14 batters -- good for an eye-popping 19.9 K/9.

Updating a previous report, Beede will start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks after being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento earlier in the day, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Beede was previously scheduled to take the hill for Wednesday's series finale, when the Giants would first require a fifth starter this season, but manager Bruce Bochy decided after Monday's loss to move the 24-year-old right-hander up a day in the pitching schedule. Bochy noted that the change was mostly related to setting the rotation up for the next 10 days as the Giants prepare for Jeff Samardzija's (pectoral) return from the disabled list April 19 in Arizona. Now that he's set to go Tuesday, Beede will line up for a two-start week, with his second turn set to come Sunday in San Diego. Beede will likely be optioned back to Sacramento following that second start with Samardzija on pace to fill the rotation vacancy next week.

The Giants recalled Beede from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

San Francisco elected to add Beede to the 25-man roster a day in advance of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. After underwhelming in his first taste of the Pacific Coast League with a 4.79 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 109 innings, Beede is likely in need of further seasoning in the minors and shouldn't be expected to stick around with the Giants for long. In fact, the 24-year-old may be optioned back to Sacramento following Wednesday's outing, as Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) could be ready to return from the 10-day disabled list and rejoin the rotation the next time a fifth starter is required April 19 in Arizona.

Gomez was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

The Giants will dispatch Gomez to the minors to clear a spot on the active roster for Tyler Beede, who is slated to make a spot start Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. With Jeff Samardzija (pectoral) on track to return from the disabled list next week when a fifth starter is next required, Beede's stay with the big club is expected to be brief and could pave the way for Gomez to rejoin the San Francisco bullpen in short order. After giving up five runs over his first two appearances of the season, Gomez was solid in relief in Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks, tossing two scoreless frames and striking out three batters.

Hand struck out the side in a perfect inning of work to earn his third save of the season Monday against the Rockies.

Hand was dominant in this appearance, pumping in nine of 15 pitches for strikes as he mowed down the side in order. It's already been an eventful season for the left-hander, who had alternated saves with losses over his previous four appearances. Despite some ups and downs, Hand has an ERA of 3.00 and a K/9 of 15 through his first six innings this season.

Smith (elbow) threw 13 pitches in an extended spring training game Monday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Smith is targeting a May 1 return, as the southpaw has been rehabbing his elbow after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March of 2017. Barring any setbacks, an early May activation from the DL looks to be obtainable, although the Giants will likely continue being cautious with him.

Hernandez (mouth) was returned from his rehab assignment Monday after breaking his fingernail in a rehab game, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Hernandez was rehabbing with High-A Jupiter while recovering from surgery to remove his wisdom teeth. He'll now add a broken nail to his list of unusual baseball injuries. It's unclear how much the fingernail will set him back, but expect at least a small delay.

Yates was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday.

After evaluating the relief pitcher's ankle Monday, the Padres decided the issue was bad enough to send him to the DL. The move is retroactive to April 8, so he is eligible to return on the 18th. Southpaw Buddy Baumann will replace him on the active roster.
