  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Cardinals' Dominic Leone: To begin throwing next week

Leone (biceps) will start a throwing program Monday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Leone recently began a strengthening program for his arm and will now progress to a throwing regimen. A return date remains unclear, as he's been on the shelf for over four weeks, but it seem unlikely that he will return before the All-Star break, especially considering the nerve issues he's been experiencing. Look for an update on his status once he resumes throwing.

  • Alex Reyes RP | LAD

Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Moved to 60-day DL

Reyes (lat) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday.

This was strictly a procedural move in order to add Tyler Webb to the 40-man roster. Reyes underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon earlier this month.

  • Tyler Webb RP | MIN

Cardinals' Tyler Webb: Claimed by Cardinals

Webb was claimed off waivers by St. Louis on Friday.

Webb was recently designated for assignment by the Padres and will report to Triple-A Memphis to begin his career with the Cardinals. In order to make room for him on the 40-man roster, Alex Reyes (lat) was moved to the 60-day disabled list. Across 19 appearances with the Padres' Triple-A team this season, Webb has logged an impressive 2.05 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, though he's been shaky in four games at the major-league level. He will provide added depth for the club's bullpen.

  • Matt Bowman RP | MIN

Cardinals' Matt Bowman: Embarks on rehab assignment

Bowman (finger) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Bowman is currently on the shelf due to another blister issue and recently received an injection to simulate blood flow to his fingers in order to combat Raynaud's Syndrome. The Cardinals are optimistic that the treatment will help prevent more blisters in the future, but it's obviously concerning that he has been sidelined due to this issue multiple times this season.

  • Anthony Kay SP | CHW

Mets' Anthony Kay: Moves to High-A

Kay was promoted to High-A St. Lucie on Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday Sports reports.

Kay started 13 games for Low-A Columbia this season, logging a 4.54 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with a 78:22 K:BB across 69.1 innings. That line includes one of his best performances to date, an 11-strikeout outing over six innings against Asheville on Thursday. The left-hander will likely spend the rest of the 2018 season with St. Lucie as he continues to shine following Tommy John surgery in October of 2016.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Phillies' Luis Garcia: Throws bullpen session

Garcia (wrist) threw a bullpen session Thursday, the Phillies' official site reports.

Garcia has been out for two weeks with a right wrist strain but appears to be nearing a return. He's expected to need at least one more bullpen session before being activated.

  • Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Records sixth save

Dominguez struck out both of the batters he faced to earn the save Thursday against the Nationals.

Dominguez was called into the game with a two-run lead and a runner on third. He allowed the inherited runner to score on a wild pitch but managed to record his sixth save of the season by striking out Wilmer Difo to end the game. He has now received the Phillies' past four save chances, so he appears to be the team's closer for at least the short-term.

  • Marlins' Trevor Richards: Takes loss to Diamondbacks

Richards (2-5) took the loss in a shaky outing Thursday against the Diamondbacks. He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks while fanning three batters over 4.0 innings.

The Diamondbacks got to Richards early, scratching those three runs across in the first two innings. Richards wasn't exactly hit hard -- he had just one extra-base hit allowed -- but the command was shaky as 28 of his 75 pitches went for balls. Overall, Richards has been mercurial in June, following up strong quality starts -- such as his one-run effort with eight strikeouts at Coors Field -- with subpar efforts like Thursday's. He's lined up to make his next start July 4 against the Rays.

  • Nick Wittgren RP | SEA

Marlins' Nick Wittgren: Heads to Triple-A

Wittgren was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans following Thursday's game against Arizona, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Wittgren allowed one run on three hits and a walk across two innings during Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks, and likely would have been unavailable Friday. The Marlins needed to clear room on the 25-man roster for Sandy Alcantara, who will be starting Friday against the Mets.

  • Mike Zagurski RP | MIL

Brewers' Mike Zagurski: Joins big-league club

Zagurski had his contract selected by the Brewers and was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday.

Zagurski signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers in December and posted a 3.90 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with a 48:12 K:BB over 30 innings with the Sky Sox. The 35-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2013, and has a career 7.05 ERA and 1.74 WHIP across 75.1 innings, covering parts of five major-league seasons. The veteran left-hander should serve a low-leverage role out of Milwaukee's bullpen, and seems likely to have a relatively short stay with the club.
