  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Diamondbacks' Matt Andriese: Covers two innings in team debut

Andriese made his Diamondbacks debut Friday in the team's 6-2 win over the Padres. He covered the final two innings in relief, giving up a run on two hits and striking out three.

The right-hander served up a mostly meaningless solo home run to Austin Hedges but was otherwise sharp in his first appearance with his new club, tossing 21 of 28 pitches for strikes. Andriese is tentatively slated to work as a multi-inning middle reliever for Arizona, but he could be a candidate to start if the Diamondbacks should lose any members of their rotation to injury.

  • Adam Ottavino RP | NYY

Rockies' Adam Ottavino: Logs fourth save

Ottavino got the save against the Athletics on Friday, retiring the side without allowing a baserunner over a scoreless ninth inning to close out Colorado's 3-1 victory. He didn't record a walk or a strikeout.

Ottavino got the call to hold the two-run ninth-inning lead in this contest and he was up to the task, retiring all three batters he faced to avoid any drama and bag his fourth save of the season. His 1.46 ERA and 0.89 WHIP are both better numbers than regular closer Wade Davis' marks of 4.50 and 1.21, but Davis has still managed to save 28 games in 32 chances, so his grasp on the role is likely secure for the time being. Ottavino should remain the primary option on days when Davis rests and figures to be a likely candidate for the role should Davis run into prolonged struggles.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Notches 20th save

Iglesias picked up the save Friday against the Phillies, as he surrendered one run (zero earned) on two hits across 1.1 innings.

Iglesias entered the game with a three-run lead -- after allowing one run to score, he managed to slam the door. The 29-year-old right-hander has been excellent in 2018, posting a 2.14 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 47 strikeouts over 46.1 innings. Following Friday's outing, he hasn't given up an earned run over his last seven appearances.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Phillies' Nick Pivetta: Fans 12 in loss

Pivetta (6-9) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while fanning 12 across six innings Friday as he was saddled with the loss against Cincinnati.

Pivetta gave up four of his five runs allowed via the home run, as he was taken deep in the second and fourth innings prior to departing with a two-run deficit. Through 21 starts this season, he sits with a 4.85 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 134 strikeouts over 107.2 innings, so he'll look to improve his ERA as the second half of the season unfolds. Pivetta's next start is lined up for Wednesday against Miami.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Nabs 30th save

Jansen struck out two in 1.1 perfect innings Friday to pick up his 30th save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Braves.

He's now hit the 30-save mark for the fifth straight season. After a rough start to the year, Jansen has looked more like his old self in July, posting a 2.03 ERA and 20:4 K:BB in 13.1 innings.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Cardinals' Dominic Leone: Throws bullpen session

Leone (biceps) threw a bullpen session earlier in the week, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

It's the first confirmed report of Leone having returned to throwing off a mound, certainly a welcome development in what has been a prolonged recovery period. The right-hander spent several weeks waiting on nerve regeneration in his throwing arm before beginning a strengthening program in mid-June. He's apparently made steady progress since then, and a minor-league rehab assignment may not be far off as a result.

  • Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: To pitch in relief

Poncedeleon will pitch out of the bullpen for the Cardinals, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

While he tossed seven no-hit innings in his big-league debut earlier this month, the Cardinals seem to prefer him as a reliever, at least in the short term. That said, he could join the rotation if the Cardinals have a need in the coming weeks.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: To work in relief

Hudson will pitch out of the bullpen initially for the Cardinals, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

He is set to make his big-league debut, but despite posting a 2.50 ERA in 19 starts at Triple-A, Hudson's first big-league exposure will come in relief. While the 23-year-old righty has a shiny ERA and plenty of pedigree (No. 34 overall pick in 2016), he lacks the stuff to generate a ton of whiffs in the big leagues, and relies primarily on keeping the ball on the ground (57.5 percent groundball rate at Triple-A).

  • Evan Phillips RP | LAD

Braves' Evan Phillips: Optioned to Triple-A

Phillips was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

The Braves needed to clear a roster spot for the newly-acquired Jonny Venters, and Phillips is the casualty. He allowed six earned runs while striking out three in 6.1 innings with the big club and will continue to serve as organizational depth at Triple-A.

  • Kyle Crockett RP | CIN

Reds' Kyle Crockett: Designated for assignment

Crockett was designated for assignment on Friday.

The 26-year-old lefty has a 5.79 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings with the big club. He will likely pass through waivers and head to Triple-A.
