Holmes (triceps) will throw simulated batting practice Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Holmes landed on the injured list last Wednesday with right triceps inflammation. The fact that he's ready to resume throwing already suggests his stay on the shelf may not be an extended one. In 22 appearances prior to landing on the IL, Holmes posted a 6.54 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 34:19 K:BB in 31.2 innings.

Jackson gave up three runs on three hits and a walk in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Atlanta held an 11-5 win when Jackson took the mound, but he promptly served up a two-run homer to Juan Soto and then an RBI single to Brian Dozier to make things interesting. The right-hander now has a bloated 10.50 ERA in six innings since the All-Star break, and Jackson's days as closer could be numbered with Chris Martin (back) joining the Atlanta bullpen via trade.

Gsellman (2-2) picked up the win Tuesday, striking out two over two perfect frames in an extra-innings victory over the White Sox.

The right-hander took care of business in the 10th and 11th innings, and Gsellman was rewarded when Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto launched back-to-back homers in the top of the 11th. With Edwin Diaz's name appearing in trade rumors, the Mets' closer role could open up in August, but Gsellman's 4.71 ERA and 1.39 WHIP likely won't merit strong consideration for ninth-inning work.

Hernandez (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Hernandez will rejoin the Reds ahead of Wednesday's series finale after spending a little less than two weeks on the shelf with a shoulder injury. He'll take the roster spot of Yasiel Puig, who was traded to the Indians in part of a three-team deal. Prior to suffering the injury, Hernandez compiled a 6.92 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB in 39 innings.

Diaz gave up a run on two walks while striking out two in the ninth inning Tuesday to blow his fifth save of the season in a 5-2 extra-innings win over the White Sox.

He also hit a batter and uncorked two wild pitches, setting up Tim Anderson for a game-tying sacrifice fly. Diaz now has a 6.00 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB through nine innings in July, and his shaky recent form isn't helping his trade value heading into Wednesday's deadline.

Andriese (foot) threw a second bullpen session Monday since landing on the injured list, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Andriese was placed on the IL on July 20 with a left foot contusion. A former starter for Tampa Bay, Andriese has worked out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks. There's a possibility Arizona could build up his innings to start if it trades any current members of the rotation, such as Zack Greinke and/or Robbie Ray, at the deadline.

Hader (1-4) took the loss against Oakland on Tuesday, retiring one batter on a strikeout before giving up a walkoff home run.

Hader was summoned in the 10th inning with the score tied 2-2 and struck out Matt Chapman to begin the frame before serving up a game-ending homer to Matt Olson. Though he has improved upon most of last season's dominant numbers by compiling a 2.29 ERA. 0.73 WHIP and 16.9 K/9 with 23 saves, Hader was been more susceptible to the long ball this year, giving up 10 in 51 innings to eclipse the nine he surrendered in 81.1 frames in 2018.

Clarke (4-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Yankees after giving up one unearned run on three hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Clarke's outing was limited by a high pitch count that saw him throw only 54 of his 95 pitches for strikes, but he was able to keep New York off balance and surrendered only one extra-base hit. The 26-year-old has won two straight starts, allowing three runs (two earned) across 11.1 innings. Clarke should have a matchup with the Phillies early next week.

Beede (3-5) took the loss Tuesday at Philadelphia after allowing four runs on 10 hits across five innings. He struck out four and walked two.

Beede kept the Phillies off the board through the first three frames, but he gave up two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to sink the outing. It's the second consecutive start the 26-year-old has surrendered four runs on 10 hits. Beede has a 5.01 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 66:32 K:BB through 70 innings and has an unfavorable matchup Sunday at Colorado.

Martin (back) was traded to the Braves from the Rangers in exchange for minor-league pitcher Kolby Allard, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Martin hasn't pitched since Friday due to a bout of back stiffness, but he'll nonetheless head to the Braves for the final two months of the season. The 33-year-old has a 3.08 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 43:4 K:BB over 38 innings for the Rangers this season, and he went 4-for-5 in save chances and recorded 12 holds. Luke Jackson has been working as the closer for the Braves, though he doesn't appear to have a firm hold on the position. Martin seems likely to start out in a high-leverage role with his new team, but save chances may be infrequent, at best.
