Gsellman (triceps) is nearing a return, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

He won't come off the injured list when eligible Thursday and has yet to throw live batting practice, but he will do so imminently. Look for him to join the Mets' bullpen in early August.

The Marlins optioned Smith to their alternate camp site Tuesday.

Scooped up off waivers from the Reds on Monday, Smith is only expected to remain at the Marlins' alternate site for a few days before joining the big club when it returns to action Aug. 4 after a week-long hiatus due to a number of positive COVID-19 tests within the organization. Smith's demotion merely cleared a spot on the 30-man active roster for another new reliever waiver-wire pickup in Mike Morin, who doesn't have any minor-league options remaining.

The Brewers added Topa to their 60-man roster pool Tuesday.

He'll assume the 60-man spot of reliever Mike Morin, who was claimed off waivers by the Marlins earlier in the day. Topa, who posted a 2.63 ERA over 24 innings in relief at Double-A Biloxi in 2019, will report to the Brewers' alternate training site in Appleton.

Gallegos made his first appearance of the season in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday, firing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning with no hits, walks or strikeouts.

Activated earlier in the day after a delayed arrival in summer camp due to travel issues, Gallegos came on to finish out the sixth inning behind fellow reliever Austin Gomber. Gallegos had been impressing in bullpen sessions and live batting practice in days prior, and the fact he got five of his six pitches into the strike zone Tuesday seems to indicate he carried that momentum over. Gallegos could eventually transition into the closer's role he was once thought of as a leading candidate to fill for at least part of this season, but manager Mike Shildt is on record as stating he'll progressively work the right-hander into the bullpen mix.

The Phillies added Medina to the 60-man roster pool Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.

Medina was likely to open the season as a member of the Triple-A Lehigh Valley rotation, but that didn't come to fruition after the 2020 minor-league campaign was cancelled earlier this summer. As a result, Medina will now report to the Phillies' alternate training site in Lehigh Valley, where he'll be able to regularly face live hitters in simulated games and batting practice sessions. He'll also be an option to join the big club at some point in 2020 if the Phillies are short on rotation arms or relief options for whatever reason.

Suter gave up four runs (two earned) over 1.2 innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates. He allowed three hits, hit a batter and posted a 2:1 K:BB in the contest.

Suter ended the 2019 season on a high note, winning the NL's Reliever of the Month award in September, but things have not gone nearly as well for him to kick off the 2020 campaign. Suter has tossed a total of 4.1 innings over two outings and has given up four earned runs while allowing eight runners to reach base. Last season's finish still presumably trumps this year's start, though, so expect Suter to remain manager Craig Counsell's preferred long-relief option for the time being.

White is a candidate to start against the Diamondbacks on Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Alex Wood (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list this past Friday, leaving the Dodgers with a temporary hole in their rotation. Manager Dave Roberts listed White among a group of young hurlers with a chance to fill in as a spot starter, though only Tony Gonsolin has major-league experience among the group. White impressed in an exhibition start at the end of summer camp but struggled in his first stint at the Triple-A level last season.

Smith (illness) could be added to the active roster by next week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

The southpaw reliever has so far only been able to play catch, but Atlanta expects that he'll be cleared for mound work very soon. Smith was quarantined with COVID-19 for most of July and was only able to join the team's camp Sunday. Atlanta's bullpen has struggled out of the gate with both Smith and Mark Melancon (back) yet to make their 2020 debuts.

Gonzalez is among a group of pitchers whom the Dodgers are considering for a spot start Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Gonzalez is traveling with the Dodgers on their current road trip as part of the club's taxi squad, notes Gurnick, so he could take a spot on the 30-man roster with ease. The southpaw's versatility makes him a good fit for the role -- he was impressive as both a starter and a reliever in the minors last season. Still, Gonzalez may not be the favorite for the start given the fact that he has pitched only 14 innings above Double-A ball.

Pomeranz struck out the side in the ninth inning against the Giants on Tuesday to earn his first save of the season.

Pomeranz dealt with a leg issue early on in summer camp, but that seems to be firmly behind him given that he's turned in three scoreless appearances with a 6:1 K:BB already this season. After the game, manager Jayce Tingler insisted that regular closer Kirby Yates is fine, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com; they simply decided to give Yates an extra day of rest after he labored Sunday. Even if Pomeranz does not end up seeing many more save chances the rest of the way, he's still worth rostering, at least in the majority of leagues with nine active pitching slots.
