Garcia struck out two and recorded his first save of the season during the second game of Friday's doubleheader, giving up a run on two hits in the seventh inning.

Brandon Kintzler worked a clean sixth inning with the Marlins up 4-2, and after they tacked on another run in the bottom of the frame, manager Don Mattingly elected to hand the save chance to Garcia. The 30-year-old responded by giving up his first run of the year, but he still got the job done to pick up his first save in the majors since 2015. It's not clear if Mattingly intends to give Garcia a shot at winning the closer role on a more permanent basis, but his 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB through 9.2 innings this year suggest he's capable of handling the assignment.

Castano didn't factor into the decision during a 5-3 win over the Phillies in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, allowing only one unearned run on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out one.

The rookie left-hander continues to minimize the damage against him despite a lot of traffic on the basepaths. Castano has a 3.32 ERA through his first 19 big-league innings, but a 1.58 WHIP and 9:9 K:BB highlight the tightrope he's been walking. The Marlins have three more doubleheaders coming up in the next nine days, so Castano should get another start during that stretch.

Young (2-3) entered as a bulk-inning reliever and picked up the win Friday against the Mariners. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one over 5.1 innings in a 4-3 victory.

Young had been in the rotation until Friday's starter, Caleb Smith, was ready to return from the COVID-19 list. Smith was lifted after three innings (40 pitches), suggesting he will be lengthened slowly, which means Young may be paired with Smith for at least another start. He could also get a spot start in a doubleheader.

Hader (1-1) struck out two in a scoreless inning to pick up the win in Friday's 1-0 victory over the Cubs.

Hader has only thrown 12.2 innings for Milwaukee thus far but has cruised to a 2.17 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while allowing a total of just two hits. Although walks have been more of an issue in 2020 (7.11 BB/9), they haven't been too much of a problem in another dominant season for Hader.

Bard (3-2) allowed a run on one hit and struck out two over one inning to earn the win Friday versus the Angels.

Bard gave up a go-ahead homer to Anthony Bemboom in the ninth inning, but the Rockies got him off the hook with a five-run rally in the bottom half of the frame. The run was Bard's first in his last five innings. The 35-year-old closer has a 3.79 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, six saves and 25 strikeouts in 19 innings this year.

Castano is starting Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Phillies.

Castano will take the mound to begin Friday's nightcap after being recalled by the Marlins on Thursday. The southpaw carries a 4.11 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 15.1 innings this season.

Strahm was placed on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation Friday.

Strahm tossed one scoreless inning Thursday, but he apparently didn't escape unscathed as he'll be sidelined with a knee injury. The severity of the issue is unclear, and whether he misses more than the 10-day minimum remains to be seen. The southpaw has pitched quite effectively this season with a 2.84 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over 19 innings.

De Leon was recalled by the Reds on Friday.

De Leon was sent down by Cincinnati on Thursday, but he'll return to the majors just one day later after Tyler Thornburg (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. De Leon has largely struggled out of the bullpen as he's allowed 12 runs on five hits and eight walks while striking out eight over four innings.

Ginkel was optioned to Arizona's alternate training site Thursday.

Ginkel had seemingly taken over as the Diamondbacks' closer after Archie Bradley was traded to Cincinnati at the deadline, but he's now no longer even a low-leverage option. His 6.75 ERA and 2.12 WHIP on the season certainly aren't closer material. Travis Bergen picked up a save Thursday and is the only remaining pitcher on Arizona's roster with a save this season.

Gallegos was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain Friday.

Gallegos suffered the injury Thursday against the Tigers. It's not clear whether or not he'll be able to return for the final week of the season. He'd saved a career-high four games this season while posting a 3.97 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP in 11.1 innings prior to suffering the injury. Andrew Miller could wind up being the primary ninth-inning option in his absence. Nabil Crismatt was recalled in a corresponding move.
