The Padres reinstated Adams (knee) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.

One of several Mariners dealt to San Diego ahead of the Aug. 31 trade deadline, Adams is finally ready to make his Padres debut after a lengthy recovery from the torn ACL he sustained just under a year ago. Prior to suffering the injury, Adams enjoyed a breakthrough 2019 season out of the Seattle bullpen, posting a 3.94 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB in 32 innings. If he can quickly rediscover that form over the final week of the regular season, Adams could emerge as a key piece in the San Diego bullpen during the playoffs.

The Phillies recalled Medina from their alternate training site ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Philadelphia demoted outfielder Mickey Moniak to the alternate site to create room on the active roster for Medina, who will be making his MLB debut Sunday. The Phillies likely would have preferred to delay Medina's move to the big leagues until 2021, but injuries to rotation members Jake Arrieta (hamstring) and Spencer Howard (shoulder) have created a need for the 23-year-old. He spent most of the 2019 campaign at Double-A Reading, posting a 4.94 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 82:41 K:BB in 105.2 innings.

Payamps was optioned to the Diamondbacks' alternate training site following Saturday's game.

This move clears space for Taylor Widener's return from a rib cage injury. Payamps ended up making just one appearance during his latest stint with the big-league club.

Cabrera recorded a five-out save, striking out three in the process during the Cardinals' 5-4 win over the Pirates on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has long been regarded as a top-15 prospect for the Cardinals and has the pedigree of a strikeout machine. He has thrown 18.2 innings in 2020, logging a 2.89 ERA with 28 strikeouts.

Howard (2-3) allowed two runs on three hits while pitching just one-third of an inning to take the loss against the Cardinals on Saturday.

As part of a bullpen meltdown, Geoff Hartlieb came in and walked the first two batters he saw. Howard allowed both inherited runners to score and yielded two runs of his own to take the loss. The implosion squandered six no-hit innings from Mitch Keller and raised Howard's ERA to 3.66 through 20 appearances.

Gallegos (groin) threw an extended bullpen session and covered first base without issue Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Saturday's workload was a major step for Gallegos in his recovery, and manager Mike Shildt noted the reliever successfully "checked off the boxes" he needed to. The fact Gallegos was able to evidently emerge free of setbacks from a rigorous workout adds to the increasing optimism the 29-year-old will be able to join the team early next week in Kansas City.

Morejon allowed a run on two hits and struck out three over three innings Saturday versus the Mariners.

Morejon's one mistake was a solo home run to Kyle Lewis, but that had no impact on the result of the game. The 21-year-old Morejon has pitched at least 1.1 innings in all seven of his appearances this year, totaling 15.2 innings overall. He has a 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB. Morejon is expected to mostly be used in multi-inning relief assignments as he was Saturday, although he has also started three games in 2020.

Patino allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 1.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Saturday.

Patino, who had mostly worked out of the bullpen in 2020, was forced into a spot start when Mike Clevinger (biceps) was scratched. Patino threw 28 of his 50 pitches for strikes, but he wasn't very effecient. The 20-year-old now has a 5.51 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings across 10 appearances.

Medina will be called up from the alternate training site to start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The Phillies are in need of rotation pieces with Spencer Howard (shoulder) and Jake Arrieta (hamstring) injured, so Medina will be promoted for his major-league debut. The 23-year-old spent 2019 at Double-A Reading and posted a 4.94 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 82:41 K:BB across 105.2 innings.

Patino was recalled from the alternate training site and will start Saturday against the Mariners, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

The 20-year-old has worked out of the bullpen this season but will make a spot start Saturday in place of Mike Clevinger (biceps). Patino has appeared in nine games and has a 5.52 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 16:11 K:BB over 14.2 innings and is unlikely to have the workload of a traditional starter.
