Williams was left off the Brewers' wild-card roster Wednesday due to right shoulder soreness, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

The news of Williams' injury comes out of nowhere, as the 26-year-old wasn't known to be dealing with any issues coming out of his final appearance of the regular season Friday. His absence for the three-game series is a major blow for the Brewers, as Williams was arguably the best reliever in baseball this season. In 27 innings out of the bullpen, he struck out 53 batters (good for a 53.0 percent strikeout rate, as he faced exactly 100 batters) while allowing just a single earned run.

The Padres included Patino on their 28-man roster for the wild-card series with the Cardinals that begins Wednesday.

The Padres added Patino and catcher Luis Campusano to the roster as replacements for starting pitchers Dinelson Lamet (biceps) and Mike Clevinger (elbow), who will both be held out of the series. Chris Paddack is scheduled to start Game 1 while Zach Davies starts Game 2, leaving Patino as an option to eat innings in a potential Game 3, which would likely be a bullpen outing.

Castano was left off the Marlins' 28-man roster for the team's NL Wild Card Series with the Cubs that begins Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Castano was the star of the Marlins' win over the Yankees in the regular-season finale, covering 6.1 shutout innings of long relief to capture his first big-league victory. The heavy workload he logged Sunday may have made the Marlins reluctant to include Castano in the bullpen for the three-game series, but since he's still a part of Miami's taxi squad, he would be eligible to rejoin the active roster later in the playoffs.

The Braves excluded Wilson from the 28-man roster for their NL Wild Card Series with the Reds that began Wednesday.

Atlanta only needs a three-man rotation for its three-game series, so Wilson found himself as the odd man out with the Braves expected to turn to Max Fried, Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright for starts. Wilson could be a candidate to rejoin the postseason roster in the divisional round, should the Braves win their series with the Reds.

Lamet (biceps) isn't included on the Padres' 28-man roster for the team's wild-card series with the Cardinals.

Neither Lamet nor Mike Clevinger (elbow) will be available this week, leaving the San Diego rotation shorthanded in the three-game series. Lamet will still be included on the Padres' 40-man postseason roster pool, so he could be an option to pitch in the divisional round if he makes good progress in his recovery from the right biceps injury.

The Braves excluded Jackson from their roster for their wild-card series with the Reds that began Wednesday.

Jackson was on the Braves' active roster throughout the regular season, but his poor finish to the campaign likely cost him a spot in the team's bullpen for the playoffs. Over his last five outings, Jackson gave up 13 runs on 18 hits and five walks over 10.1 innings.

Suter will start Wednesday against the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series.

The injury to Corbin Burnes (oblique) will force Milwaukee to look outside its usual rotation for the playoff opener, and Suter will receive the starting nod. The left-hander made four spot starts throughout the season, allowing two runs on six hits with 16 strikeouts and four walks over 13 innings. Suter's highest pitch count of the season was 59 pitches in his last appearance Sept. 25, but the Brewers could decide to ride him a bit longer Wednesday since he already won't be available for the next two games in the series.

Martin (groin) is expected to be ready to pitch Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Martin left Sunday's season finale with a right groin issue, but it was evidently a minor one. He allowed just two runs in 18 innings of relief this season, striking out 20 and walking just three.

Lamet (biceps) could be ready to pitch Game 1 or Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Cardinals, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Lamet played light catch Saturday after he was removed from his final start of the regular season with biceps tightness. The right-hander still hasn't been officially cleared to start in the Padres' first series of the playoffs, but the team remains optimistic that Lamet and Mike Clevinger (elbow) could each be available to start. Chris Paddack and Zach Davies are candidates to start in the series.

Lawrence (suspension) was reinstated from the restricted list upon the completion of his suspension Monday.

Lawrence missed the entire season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He'll be a member of the 40-man roster for now, but his hold on that spot is unlikely to be a firm one, as he hasn't pitched in over a year and recorded an 8.76 ERA and a 32:29 K:BB in 37 innings in the upper minors in 2019. James Pazos was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
