  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Receives vote of confidence

Manager Luis Rojas said he plans to utilize Diaz if a save situation arises Tuesday in Cincinnati, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The right-hander has blown three straight saves with seven runs allowed on seven hits and three walks across three frames during that stretch, but the Mets' skipper is going to stick with him for the time being. Trevor May figures to be the next man up for save opportunities, but Diaz will receive at least one more chance to turn things around as New York's closer.

  • Lucas Sims RP | CHW

Reds' Lucas Sims: Beginning rehab next week

Sims (elbow) will join Triple-A Louisville for a rehab assignment next week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

An elbow sprain sent Sims to the injured list June 24 after he'd posted a 5.02 ERA and 44:15 K:BB in 28.2 innings of relief. The righty had settled into a closing role prior to the injury, though he may yield such responsibilities to Tejay Antone (forearm) once the latter ultimately returns from the injured list. It's unclear how much rehab work Sims will require, but an activation around the start of August still appears realistic.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | CHC

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Getting call-up Wednesday

Wilson will start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres.

Wilson is currently with Triple-A Gwinnett but will presumably be called up as the 27th man for the twin bill. His 4.23 ERA in nine starts and one relief appearance at the Triple-A level this season is fine but forgettable, though it's at least better than his 5.34 ERA in six major-league starts.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: Beginning bullpens next week

Antone (forearm) will start throwing bullpen sessions sometime next week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The righty landed on the injured list June 26 with a right forearm strain, but he received a plasma injection in early July and has been recovering since. Barring any setbacks, Antone should progress from bullpens into live sessions before ultimately going on a rehab assignment. With so many steps between him and an activation from the IL, Antone still appears to be on track for an early August return.

  • Justin Topa RP | MIN

Brewers' Justin Topa: Advances in rehab

Topa (elbow) was transferred to Double-A Biloxi on Tuesday to continue his rehab assignment, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

A right elbow flexor strain has sidelined the 30-year-old since the end of spring training. Topa appeared in two games while rehabbing at the Arizona Complex League, striking out five and walking none in two scoreless frames. The righty will likely require at least a couple appearances at Double-A before progressing to Triple-A Nashville and ultimately rejoining the Brewers, suggesting an activation around the end of July or early August.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Hopeful for minimal IL stay

Williams (elbow) said Tuesday that he's hopeful his stay on the injured list will end after the minimum 10 days, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Williams played catch Tuesday for the first time since landing on the IL with right elbow discomfort last Friday. While nothing is set in stone, the right-hander appears to be on track for a short stay on the injured list, even if it ends up being slightly longer than the 10 days. If he is indeed ready to be activated when first eligible, the 26-year-old would return to the Brewers' bullpen Saturday against the White Sox.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Brewers' Brad Boxberger: Good chance to avoid injured list

Boxberger (shoulder) said following his Tuesday throwing session that he's confident he'll avoid a trip to the injured list, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Boxberger exited Saturday's game after experiencing stiffness in his throwing shoulder. The right-hander threw Tuesday for the first time since the issue arose, and it sounds like he's trending toward remaining on the active roster. The right-hander seems very unlikely to pitch in Tuesday's game against Kansas City, but assuming he does indeed avoid the IL, a Wednesday return to the mound could be in the realm of possibility.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Brewers' Brad Boxberger: Able to throw

Boxberger (shoulder) played catch Tuesday so the team could evaluate him, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Boxberger pitched in the first two games of the second half but left Saturday's contest with the shoulder issue. It's good news that he hasn't been shut down completely, but the Brewers won't know whether he needs a trip to the injured list until they see how his shoulder responds to the throwing session.

  • Dodgers' Victor Gonzalez: Lit up in return

Gonzalez gave up three runs on four hits while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning against the Giants on Monday.

The southpaw made his first appearance in two weeks after being reinstated from the injured list earlier in the day. He appeared rusty in the brief outing, giving up a pair of singles and a pair of doubles sandwiched around a sacrifice fly. The subpar performance pushed Gonzalez's season ERA up to 3.45 -- it had been a much tidier 2.57 prior to Monday.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Able to play catch

Williams (elbow) played catch Tuesday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Williams hit the injured list Friday with right elbow discomfort. While it's never good to see a pitcher dealing with an elbow injury, the fact that he's throwing again just a few days later certainly seems to be a positive sign. However, the Brewers have yet to specify exactly when they expect him to return.
