  • Mitch White RP | MIL

    Dodgers' Mitch White: Starting Wednesday

Manager Dave Roberts announced White as the starter for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

White was previously expected to follow an opener Tuesday, but Roberts instead made a "last-minute decision" to employ a bullpen game instead. The 26-year-old will work as a traditional starter in the series finale. He has a 3.49 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB over 38.2 major-league innings this season.

  • John Curtiss RP | ARI

Brewers' John Curtiss: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Curtiss underwent Tommy John surgery last week, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Curtiss was diagnosed with a torn UCL in mid-August, so it's no surprise to see him undergo the surgery. Recovery from the procedure is expected to keep him out until the start of the 2023 season.

  • Taylor Clarke RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Taylor Clarke: Optioned to Triple-A

Clarke was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Clarke has pitched poorly since the start of August, allowing 13 runs (10 earned) in his last 9.2 innings. He could return at some point later in the month, but his 4.98 ERA and 1.52 WHIP on the season should keep him in a low-leverage role.

  • Dillon Peters RP | PIT

Pirates' Dillon Peters: Activated ahead of start

Peters (back) was activated off the injured list Tuesday and will start against the Tigers.

Peters wound up missing the minimum 10 days while battling a back issue. He was effective in three starts prior to the injury, recording a 3.07 ERA and 1.23 WHIP, though he struck out just 15.9 percent of opposing batters.

  • Dodgers' Garrett Cleavinger: Oblique injury ends season

Cleavinger (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

This effectively ends Cleavinger's season, as he last pitched Aug. 6. The move opens a spot on the 40-man roster for Steven Souza.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | CHC

Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Turns in quality start

Wilson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings in Monday's win over the Tigers. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.

Wilson was terrific to start the game, yielding just three hits and a walk through five shutout innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth and coughed up three runs, including a two-run double by Niko Goodrum. It was his second time completing six innings as a Pirate and he lowered his ERA slightly to 4.60 through 62.2 frames. Wilson is lined up to face the Nationals at home this weekend.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Pirates' David Bednar: Slams door for third save

Bednar struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning and earned the save against Detroit on Monday.

Bednar threw 12-of-16 pitches for strikes and had no issue rolling through the Tigers in order to finish off the 6-3 victory. He's now riding a 10.1-inning scoreless streak with three saves since Aug. 15. Bednar is now sporting a 72:17 K:BB and a 2.22 ERA through 56.2 frames.

  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Initiates rehab assignment

Gsellman (lat) made the first appearance of his rehab assignment at Low-A St. Lucie on Sunday, recording two outs while allowing three runs on three hits.

Gsellman threw 12 of his 17 pitches for strikes in the rehab start, but that was about the only positive takeaway in his first outing in affiliated ball since June 19. Because he's been on the shelf for nearly three months with a right lat strain, Gsellman will likely require several more rehab appearances at multiple affiliates before the Mets bring him back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Mets' Jordan Yamamoto: Rehab shifts to Low-A

Yamamoto (shoulder) made his most recent rehab start at Low-A St. Lucie on Thursday, working four innings while striking out five and giving up a run on three hits and no walks.

Now four starts into his rehab assignment, Yamamoto has made his last three turns with St. Lucie after kicking off his minor-league stint in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. He's continuing to build back up for a starting role in case the Mets require an extra arm for the rotation later in September, but Yamamoto is more likely to slot into the bullpen if the big club suffers no further attrition to its pitching staff in the next week or two.

  • Peter Lambert SP | HOU

Rockies' Peter Lambert: Moves rehab to Double-A

Lambert (elbow) made the fifth appearance of his rehab assignment at Double-A Hartford on Sunday, striking out five over 2.2 innings while allowing one run on one hit and no walks.

Lambert hit three batters during the start, so his control wasn't completely on point, despite the fact he didn't issue a walk. Even so, the outing was another encouraging one for Lambert, who is beginning to build up his pitch count as he works his way back from July 2020 Tommy John surgery. Lambert may not have enough time left this season to return from the 60-day injured list and fill a spot in the Colorado rotation, but he could fill a bullpen role for the big club over the final few weeks.
