  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Brewers' Josh Hader: Blows first save, suffers loss

Hader (0-1) took the loss Tuesday after he blew a save, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two versus the Phillies.

Hader was called upon to protect a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, but he surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Alec Bohm to open the frame, which snapped his record-tying 40-appearance scoreless streak. He later gave up another solo shot to Matt Vierling with one out in the frame. The blown save was his first of the season and the earned runs were his first allowed since last July. Ultimately, even the best players have off days and Hader will rebound just fine from this difficult appearance. His 18 saves on the campaign are tied with Taylor Rogers for the most in the league and he owns a microscopic 0.96 ERA and 0.64 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 18.2 innings this season.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Excellent in no-decision

Hudson allowed a run on two hits and a walk, striking out six in seven innings of a 4-2 loss Tuesday in Tampa Bay. He did not factor into the decision.

Hudson mowed through the Cardinals' lineup through the first six innings, allowing just two baserunners. Manuel Margot doubled to begin the seventh and the Rays manufactured a run with a groundout and a sacrifice fly. It was the first time he struck out more than four batters in a game this season. The 27-year-old has an impressive 2.76 ERA despite a 34:25 K:BB in 58.2 innings.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Crushed in loss

Thompson (6-1) took the loss Tuesday in Baltimore, allowing seven runs on five hits, two hit batsmen and a walk while striking out one in three innings.

Thompson allowed home runs on two of his first three pitches and gave up a third blast in the second inning. His night ended after only 50 pitches as he allowed multiple runs in each of the three innings. Thompson allowed only three homers in his first 45.1 innings this season and was taken deep three times in his first time through the order Tuesday. His next start will likely come early next week against San Diego.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sam Long: Back with big-league club

Long was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was sent to Sacramento on Friday but will rejoin the Giants with Alex Cobb (neck) headed to the injured list. Long has started three games for San Francisco this season but has covered only 12.1 frames in 10 appearances, and he's not fully stretched out as a starter. The team has yet to announce who will fill Cobb's spot in the rotation, but Long is likely to be considered.

  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Called up Tuesday

Morejon was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Morejon was sent to the minors after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday, but he'll join the Padres' bullpen after Robert Suarez (knee) was placed on the IL on Tuesday. Morejon hasn't pitched in the majors since April of 2021 after he underwent Tommy John surgery, but he'll likely serve as a long reliever now that he's back with the big-league club.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Placed on 15-day injured list

Suarez was placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation Tuesday.

Suarez struck out nine in six scoreless innings over his last six relief appearances, but he's apparently dealing with a knee injury that will force him to miss at least two weeks. A timetable for his return hasn't yet been revealed, but left-hander Adrian Morejon was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Trevor Gott RP | WAS

Brewers' Trevor Gott: Placed on 15-day injured list

Gott was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain Tuesday, retroactive to June 6.

Gott dealt with a quad issue in early May, and he'll now be forced to spend time on the injured list due to a groin strain. It's not yet clear how much time the right-hander is expected to miss, but Tuesday's move made room on the active roster for Hunter Renfroe, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Gott posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in five innings over his last five outings.

  • Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Called up prior to start

Gilbert was recalled from Triple-A Reno prior to Tuesday's start against the Reds in Cincinnati.

The left-hander will fill in as Tuesday's starter after Humberto Castellanos (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list last week. However, Gilbert might not stick around in the major-league rotation since the Diamondbacks signed Dallas Keuchel to a minor-league deal Monday. Gilbert has made three appearances (two starts) in the big leagues this year and has posted a 5.02 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 14.1 innings.

  • Phil Bickford RP | DET

Dodgers' Phil Bickford: Recalled from minors

Bickford was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Bickford was sent down by the Dodgers on May 27, but he'll rejoin the major-league club to provide bullpen depth after Craig Kimbrel was placed on the paternity list Tuesday. Over 17 relief appearances in the majors this year, Bickford has posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 15.2 innings.

  • Dodgers' Craig Kimbrel: Goes on paternity leave

The Dodgers placed Kimbrel on the paternity list Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Phil Bickford was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Kimbrel's spot in the bullpen, but Daniel Hudson likely represents the top option for saves out of the Dodgers' bullpen while the veteran closer is away from the team. According to MLB rules, players placed on the paternity list have to miss at least 1-to-3 games, so Kimbrel could sit out the Dodgers' entire three-game series with the White Sox that begins Tuesday.
