Kenley Jansen RP | DET
Braves' Kenley Jansen: Save in close game
Jansen picked up the save Tuesday against the Athletics. He allowed zero runs on zero hits and zero walks while striking out one over one inning.
After Kyle Wright's eight-inning outing, Jansen entered in the ninth to record the final three outs and earn the save. While the veteran closer looked settled in Tuesday and picked up save number 15, good for fifth most in the majors, he still has allowed at least one earned run in five of his last nine outings.

Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Rocked for six earned runs
Gilbert (0-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Reds after surrendering seven runs (six earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 1.2 innings.
The 28-year-old threw only 31 of his 55 pitches for strikes, and homers from Joey Votto and Brandon Drury accounted for five of the runs against him. The left-hander was promoted from Triple-A Reno for Tuesday's start with Humberto Castellanos (elbow) on the injured list, but Gilbert's performance certainly didn't help his case for a rotation spot. He gave up two runs in his first two outings of the season but has allowed six earned runs in his past two starts.

Austin Adams RP | BOS
Padres' Austin Adams: Yet to resume throwing
Adams (forearm) hasn't thrown since going on the injured list April 13, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Adams' injury was initially considered mild, but he was subsequently diagnosed with a forearm strain and eventually moved to the 60-day injured list. The fact that he hasn't yet thrown suggests that his absence will extend beyond the minimum. Adams seems unlikely to return until after the All-Star break.

Drew VerHagen RP | STL
Cardinals' Drew VerHagen: Takes extra-inning loss
VerHagen (3-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Rays.
Manager Oli Marmol deployed Giovanny Gallegos and Ryan Helsley in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to keep the game tied at 1-1. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the top of the 10th, but VerHagen couldn't protect the lead, instead giving up a walkoff three-run home run to Taylor Walls. VerHagen has now allowed multiple runs in each of his last two appearances, pushing his ERA up to 4.96 with a 1.53 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB across 16.1 innings this year. He's more likely to see multi-inning assignments than closing chances.

Pierce Johnson RP | CIN
Padres' Pierce Johnson: Still not throwing
Johnson (elbow) hasn't yet resumed throwing but may do so in mid-June, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
It's been a slow recovery for the right-hander, who was placed on the injured list April 22 and was at one point considered a candidate to resume throwing in early June. That timeline has been pushed back a bit, but it's still feasible that Johnson could return to the Padres before the end of the month. The veteran reliever will almost certainly need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment given the length of his absence.

Zack Littell SP | WAS
Giants' Zack Littell: Handed loss Tuesday
Littell (1-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Rockies.
Littell allowed consecutive singles to Jose Iglesias and Randal Grichuk before getting an out. Charlie Blackmon then entered as a pinch hitter for the Rockies, and manager Gabe Kapler responded with Jose Alvarez, who promptly allowed both inherited runners from Littell to score on a home run. Prior to Tuesday, the right-hander had pitched 5.2 scoreless innings in his last four appearances. He's now at a 5.40 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB in 21.2 innings overall.

Daniel Bard RP | COL
Rockies' Daniel Bard: No trouble for 12th save
Bard recorded two strikeouts in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Giants.
Bard threw eight of 10 pitches for strikes to finish the contest without drama. He's allowed only one unearned run, one hit and six walks across his last nine innings, picking up three saves and two wins in that span. The Rockies' closer owns a solid 2.42 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB while converting 12 of 14 saves this year across 22.1 innings.

Nick Martinez SP | TB
Padres' Nick Martinez: Set to start Sunday
Martinez is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Mets, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander worked in long relief last weekend but will make a spot start Sunday since San Diego has a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday. Martinez threw 70 pitches over four innings during that relief outing and threw 93 pitches in his last start May 30, so he shouldn't face any notable workload restrictions as a spot starter.

Packy Naughton RP | STL
Cardinals' Packy Naughton: Starting Wednesday
Naughton will start Wednesday's game against the Rays, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
The 26-year-old hasn't pitched since covering 2.1 innings as an opener May 30, but he'll make another start Wednesday in Tampa Bay. Naughton has yet to pitch four frames in any appearance between the majors or minors this season, so he's unlikely to pitch deep enough Wednesday to have a chance at a victory.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Brewers' Josh Hader: Blows first save, suffers loss
Hader (0-1) took the loss Tuesday after he blew a save, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two versus the Phillies.
Hader was called upon to protect a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, but he surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Alec Bohm to open the frame, which snapped his record-tying 40-appearance scoreless streak. He later gave up another solo shot to Matt Vierling with one out in the frame. The blown save was his first of the season and the earned runs were his first allowed since last July. Ultimately, even the best players have off days and Hader will rebound just fine from this difficult appearance. His 18 saves on the campaign are tied with Taylor Rogers for the most in the league and he owns a microscopic 0.96 ERA and 0.64 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 18.2 innings this season.
