John Brebbia RP | COL
Giants' John Brebbia: Extends scoreless streak
Brebbia allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning during Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
Brebbia was the opener in another bullpen game, so he was never expected to be in line for the win. He's been good in July so far, pitching 6.1 scoreless innings with a 3:3 K:BB and three hits allowed this month. The right-hander's success as an opener could see him continue to get those opportunities when the Giants' rotation is shorthanded. Overall e's produced a 2.33 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB in 38.2 innings across 41 appearances, three of which have been as an opener. He's added a 4-1 record and eight holds, indicating he's earned some high-leverage chances.

Kirby Yates RP | LAA
Braves' Kirby Yates: Starting rehab assignment Saturday
Yates (elbow) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday, Jeff Schultz of the Athletic reports.
Yates has been slowly working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in March 2021 and appears set to return to Atlanta's bullpen in the coming weeks. It's unclear which affiliate he'll start his rehab assignment with, but he'll likely need to make multiple appearances before being added to the active roster. Yates remains on track to join Atlanta at some point in early August.

Giovanny Gallegos RP | LAD
Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Can't close door on Dodgers
Gallegos (2-4) was tagged with the loss and a blown save against the Dodgers on Wednesday as a result of allowing two runs on three hits over one inning. He struck out two batters and did not issue a walk.
Gallegos inherited a one-run ninth-inning lead, but he wasn't able to keep things that way. The right-hander allowed the first two batters he saw to reach base, and a subsequent sacrifice fly and single resulted in two runs for Los Angeles. Gallegos and Ryan Helsley have been sharing closer duties, but it wouldn't be surprising to see more chances going Helsley's way given Gallegos' recent struggles. The latter has given up at least one run in each of his past four appearances and has two losses in addition to two blown saves over that span.

Evan Phillips RP | LAD
Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Records first save
Phillips earned the save over the Cardinals on Wednesday with a perfect inning that included one strikeout.
The Dodgers were down big through six frames, but they posted seven runs over the final three innings to take the lead. Manager Dave Roberts had used closer Craig Kimbrel to cover the eighth inning, so the skipper turned to Phillips in the ninth. The right-hander came through by retiring all three batters he faced on seven pitches for his second career save. The successful outing continued a dominant stretch for Phillips -- since the start of May, he's allowed only one run over 26 innings while racking up two wins and 11 holds in addition to Wednesday's save. He's posted a 28:7 K:BB during that span.

Adrian Morejon RP | SD
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Yields run in return
Morejon (shoulder) gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in one inning during Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies.
Morejon missed about three weeks with shoulder inflammation. The 23-year-old southpaw has allowed at least one run in three of his four appearances this season, though he's also picked up one win. He's added a 2:1 K:BB with a 4.76 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 5.2 innings. Morejon is expected to fill a middle-relief role going forward, and his background as a starter could allow him to cover multiple innings.

Mark Melancon RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Mark Melancon: Takes eighth loss
Melancon (3-8) allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out one across one-third of an inning to take the loss Wednesday against the Giants.
Melancon entered the game in the ninth inning with the score knotted at three. However, he allowed two singles, a double and a walk to take his eighth loss of the season. Melancon has served as Arizona's primary closer this season -- particularly since Ian Kennedy (calf) has been sidelined -- but has allowed one earned run in four of his last 10 appearances. Melancon owns a 5.28 ERA and a 21:9 K:BB across 30.2 frames on the season.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Brewers' Josh Hader: Serves up three-hun homer
Hader (0-3) allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out to take the loss Wednesday against the Twins.
Hader entered the game with the score knotted at 1-1 in the ninth inning, but he served up a walk-off three-run home run to Jose Miranda. While it doesn't change his outlook much in the long term, Hader has now allowed at least one earned run in four of his last five appearances. He's still managed two saves in that span but has also taken two losses. Despite the recent struggles, Hader still owns a 2.73 ERA with a 52:11 K:BB across 29.2 frames for the season.

Tanner Scott RP | LAD
Marlins' Tanner Scott: Blown save Wednesday
Scott was charged with a blown save Wednesday after he pitched one inning, giving up one run on a hit and two walks while striking out one in the Marlins' 5-4 extra-inning victory over the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.
Scott entered the game in the top of the ninth inning with a 2-1 lead, but he walked the first two batters he faced before Michael Chavis roped a game-tying RBI double. Scott was able to limit the damage to just one run and retired the next three batters he faced, including a strikeout of Ben Gamel. The blown save was his fourth of the campaign and third in his last six opportunities. Scott now owns a 4.17 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 55 strikeouts over 36.2 innings, and he's converted 12 out of 16 save chances this season.

David Bednar RP | NYY
Pirates' David Bednar: Implodes Wednesday
Bednar (3-3) got the loss Wednesday after he blew a save, surrendering three runs on three hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning in a 5-4 extra-inning defeat to the Marlins.
Bednar was called upon for the second straight night to protect a late lead, but Wednesday was a far different story than the day prior. After being entrusted with a 4-2 lead when he entered in the bottom of the 10th, Bednar allowed three singles and two runs before uncorking a game-ending wild pitch with two outs. The blown save was his fourth of the year and first in his last six save opportunities. Overall, Bednar has converted 16 saves in 20 chances, generating a 3.16 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 56 punchouts over 42.2 innings in 36 appearances this season.
