Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

After appearing in two games since being called up Sunday, Thompson was sent back down to Triple-A in order to free up a spot for Jake McGee. Over the course of his brief stints in the majors this season, he's turned in an impressive 1.13 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over eight innings of work. It seems to be only a matter of time before the 24-year-old righty gets a long-term promotion to the big-league club.

Williams (3-2) struck out one in a perfect 10th inning Wednesday to pick up the win in a 4-3 victory over the Rays.

He needed only seven pitches (four strikes) to breeze through the top of the 10th inning thanks in part to Victor Caratini throwing out Taylor Walls attempting to steal second, and Williams got rewarded for his efforts when Willy Adames smacked a walkoff single against his former club in the bottom of the frame. Williams has yet to give up an earned run in four appearances since Josh Hader was dealt to the Padres, and on the season the right-hander sports a 1.66 ERA and 70:19 K:BB through 43.1 innings with seven saves in seven chances and 25 holds.

Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Jackson was promoted to the big-league club Sunday and will return to the minors without making an appearance. Ryan Pepiot, who is starting Wednesday against the Twins, was recalled from Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Hoffman (forearm) wasn't feeling well after his throwing session in Milwaukee over the weekend and is scheduled to meet with a doctor, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Bell acknowledged that he wasn't sure whether Hoffman would need to undergo an MRI, but at the very least, the right-hander looks like he'll have his throwing progression slowed down while he continues to experience forearm discomfort. Hoffman posted a 3.83 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 44.2 innings out of the bullpen for Cincinnati before landing on the 15-day injured list July 24.

Hill (3-0) earned the win over San Francisco on Tuesday by striking out the only batter he faced.

The Padres summoned newly acquired closer Josh Hader in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead, but he melted down and allowed three runs to score. Hill entered with the go-ahead run at second base and struck out Joc Pederson to keep the game tied, and the reliever picked up the victory when Manny Machado launched a walkoff homer in the bottom of the frame. Hill hasn't allowed an earned run in 14 straight starts, though he's notched only six strikeouts over 12.2 innings during that stretch.

Yates (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Yates underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2021 and spent the last year and a half recovering. However, he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in mid-July and posted a 1.08 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in 8.1 innings over eight appearances in the minors over the last few weeks. The 35-year-old converted 41 of 44 save chances for the Padres in 2019, but he'll likely serve as a middle reliever or setup man for Atlanta since the team has Kenley Jansen and Raisel Iglesias available for late-inning work.

Matzek struck out two in a perfect 11th inning Tuesday to record his first save of the season in a win over the Red Sox.

Deadline acquisition Raisel Iglesias worked the eighth inning and closer Kenley Jansen the ninth, leaving the extra frames to the rest of the bullpen. Dylan Lee gave up a run in the 10th after Atlanta had taken a lead, but Matzek was able to get the job done in the 11th. The southpaw's control has wavered at times this season, and he sports a 3.86 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 21:15 K:BB through 25.2 innings with a win and six holds in addition to Tuesday's save.

Finnegan (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing two runs on four hits over one inning. He didn't walk or strike out a batter.

The Nationals' nominal closer was brought into the game in the seventh inning after Erasmo Ramirez gave up three straight singles to begin the frame, but Finnegan couldn't do much to stem the tide and allowed Chicago to take a 5-4 lead before getting the final out. The blown save was officially Finnegan's fourth of the year, but he got credit for the win when Washington struck back for two runs in the top of the eighth. He hasn't seen work in the ninth inning in any of his three August appearances, and if manager Dave Martinez is shifting Finnegan into a high-leverage fireman role, there could be more saves up for grabs with the Nats -- Carl Edwards recorded his first of the year Tuesday, and other arms like Steve Cishek or Hunter Harvey could factor into the mix as well.

Rogers (2-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Padres.

Rogers got the ball after the Giants tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, but he didn't handle the high-leverage spot well. He allowed a one-out single to Jurickson Profar and Juan Soto got aboard on catcher's interference before Manny Machado walked it off with a three-run home run. Rogers has been hit or miss since the start of July -- he's pitched 15 times in that span, allowing multiple runs five times. The right-hander has a 4.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB through 52 innings while adding 12 holds and a blown save in 50 appearances.

Hader allowed three runs on a hit, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out one in two-thirds of an inning, taking a blown save in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Giants.

Hader was looking for his first save as a Padre, but he labored in the ninth inning, twice issuing bases-loaded walks before giving up the tying run on a sacrifice fly. He needed 37 pitches (19 strikes) in the shaky outing, and he would also be denied the win as Tim Hill finished the frame before the Padres walked it off. Hader had a shaky stretch just before the All-Star break, and he's now given up four runs through seven innings in the second half. The closer is 29-for-32 in save chances while adding a 4.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 63:15 K:BB through 36.2 innings this year.
