  • Padres' Steven Wilson: Optioned to El Paso

Wilson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

It's not every day you see a pitcher with a 3.57 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 33 appearances sent packing. The Padres are getting Robert Suarez (knee) back from the injured list, and Wilson is a rookie with options. He should be back with the big-league team in short order.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Back from injured list

Suarez (knee) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Saturday.

Suarez returns to the 40-man and 26-man rosters after he underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee back in June. A star closer in Japan, Suarez has earned only one save to date in his rookie season in Major League Baseball. However, he's proven to be a more-than-capable bullpen arm with a 3.09 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 29:13 K:BB in 22 appearances.

  • Adonis Medina RP | SEA

Mets' Adonis Medina: Returns to majors

Medina was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in between games of Saturday's doubleheader, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The Mets swapped out their Game 1 starter -- David Peterson -- for some extra bullpen depth in Medina ahead of the nightcap. Medina has split his season to date between Syracuse and Queens, posting identical 3.00 ERAs in 11 appearances at both stops.

  • Marlins' Elieser Hernandez: Returns from injured list

Hernandez was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hernandez had been out for just over two weeks due to the illness. He's ready to go after throwing a pair of scoreless rehab innings. The righty had transitioned to a relief role prior to his absence and looks set to remain in that role down the stretch.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Padres' Sean Manaea: Shelled by Dodgers

Manaea (6-6) took the loss during Friday's 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in four innings.

Manaea faced problem innings in the first and third, allowing four runs in each frame along with 10 of his 12 baserunners. The 30-year-old has hit a bit of a rough patch with a 7.14 ERA across 29 innings in six starts since the end of June, with the one bright side being seven strikeouts and at least 13 swinging strikes in each of his last two turns. Manaea now possesses a 4.74 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 118 strikeouts in 114 innings across 20 starts. He lines up to take the mound again midweek against the Giants.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Collects seventh save

Williams struck out both batters he faced to earn the save in Friday's 5-1 win over the Reds.

Trevor Gott walked two of the first three batters in the ninth inning, but Williams was able to strike out Matt Reynolds and Jonathan India to end the threat. This was Williams' first save and first opportunity since the Brewers traded Josh Hader to the Padres on Monday. Williams owns a 1.74 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 68:19 K:BB, seven saves and 25 holds through 41.1 innings this season. He's pitched three days in a row, so any potential save opportunity Saturday is likely to go to Taylor Rogers. The balance between those two high-end relievers has yet to be established, but Williams' elite stuff makes him the more intriguing potential closer.

  • Andre Pallante SP | STL

Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Earns win over Yankees

Pallante (5-4) allowed three hits and two walks over four scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Yankees.

Making his first relief appearance since June 15, Pallante delivered an excellent outing to keep the Cardinals in the contest after a lackluster start from Dakota Hudson. Manager Oli Marmol hinted after the game that Hudson's spot in the rotation could be up for grabs, with Pallante the most likely candidate to fill it, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Pallante has excelled in a versatile role this year, logging a 3.03 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 61:29 K:BB across 86 innings in 29 appearances (10 starts). Hudson's spot in the rotation comes up again next week in Colorado, which would likely be a daunting assignment for either pitcher.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Picks up 10th save

Helsley walked one in a scoreless inning to earn his 10th save of the year in Friday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Helsley was able to protect a one-run lead after Paul DeJong put the Cardinals ahead for the first time in the eighth inning. This was Helsley's ninth consecutive scoreless outing, spanning 9.1 innings, and he's picked up four saves, a win and a hold in that stretch. For the season, he owns a 0.61 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 66:13 K:BB through 44.1 innings.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Lasts four innings Friday

Hudson allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Friday.

Manager Oli Marmol wasn't pleased with Hudson's tempo, and Katie Woo of The Athletic reports the right-hander's spot in the rotation could be at risk. Hudson threw 47 of 78 pitches for strikes, while Andre Pallante -- his potential replacement in the rotation -- also covered four innings on 65 pitches (37 strikes) to earn the win Friday. Hudson owns a 4.20 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 56:46 K:BB through 105 innings across 20 starts this year, but he's been worse with 15 runs allowed in 25 innings since the start of July. It's unclear whether the right-hander would move to the bullpen or get sent down to Triple-A Memphis if he loses his starting role. Either Hudson or Pallante figures to handle a difficult road start in Colorado next week.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Braves' Kenley Jansen: Works in non-save situation

Jansen allowed one run and struck out one batter in one inning during Friday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

Jansen made his first appearance of the month and coughed up a solo shot to Jeff McNeil. The veteran closer hasn't earned a save since July 29 and he saw his ERA climb to 3.57 through 40 appearances. As expected, Jansen is still the team's top closing option, with the newly acquired Raisel Iglesias working the eighth inning Friday.
