Dodgers' Tommy Kahnle: Begins rehab assignment
Kahnle (forearm) reported to Triple-A Oklahoma City to start a rehab assignment Wednesday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.
Kahnle missed the start of the season while completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery and made only four appearances for the Dodgers in May before suffering a forearm strain, but he's now been cleared for game action in the minors. Manager Dave Roberts said a roster decision on the 33-year-old could come in about two weeks.

Cory Abbott RP | SEA
Nationals' Cory Abbott: Sent to minors
Abbott was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Mariners, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
The 26-year-old was shifted from the rotation to the bullpen over the weekend and fired two scoreless frames Tuesday against the Mariners, but he's now headed back to Triple-A. Abbott was demoted to make room on the big-league roster for prospect Cade Cavalli, who is scheduled to make his MLB debut Friday versus the Reds.

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Could return Friday
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Helsley (personal) is likely to rejoin the team for Friday's game against Atlanta, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander was placed on the paternity list last Friday and was transferred to the restricted list Monday in order to spend additional time with his wife and newborn child. Helsley isn't expected to rejoin the team for Thursday's series finale versus the Cubs in Chicago, but he should be back for Friday's home matchup with Atlanta.

Cousins (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.
Cousins was sidelined since the end of April, but he began a rehab assignment in late July and recorded a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 10 innings over 10 minor-league appearances. The 28-year-old will remain in the minors now that he's back to full health.

Colin Holderman RP | CLE
Pirates' Colin Holderman: Day-to-day with shoulder issue
Holderman was diagnosed with right shoulder discomfort following his appearance in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
The injury likely explains why Holderman was woefully ineffective Wednesday, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs on three hits and a walk. The Pirates are labeling Holderman as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could be in the forecast if he doesn't show significant improvement heading into the weekend.

Pierce Johnson RP | CIN
Padres' Pierce Johnson: Starts up rehab assignment in ACL
Johnson (elbow) struck out one over a perfect inning in his first rehab appearance Tuesday for the Padres' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.
The appearance was Johnson's first at any level in more than four months after the Padres placed him on the injured list April 22 with right elbow tendonitis. The right-hander could make a few more appearances in Arizona before eventually transferring his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso or Double-A San Antonio prior to being reinstated from the 60-day IL as soon as next week. Johnson will likely be ticketed for a middle-relief or setup role for San Diego once he's activated.
