  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Makes MLB debut

Martinez allowed two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out two over one inning in Friday's 7-3 win over Pittsburgh. He also hit a batter.

Martinez brought the heat as advertised, averaging 100.8 mph on his four-seamer with 14 of 29 pitches clocking in at over 100 mph. He also brought the control issues that have dogged him in the minors. The 21-year-old right-hander struck out 41 batters in 31 innings at Triple-A Reno this season but also walked 28.

  • Kyle Nelson RP | ATL

Diamondbacks' Kyle Nelson: Will serve as opener Saturday

Nelson will serve as the Diamondbacks' opener Saturday versus the Pirates, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

It'll be his first appearance in that role this year. Nelson has registered a strong 2.76 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 32.2 innings of relief this season with Arizona, but he'll probably only be asked to handle a frame or two Saturday against Pittsburgh and offers little fantasy appeal.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Earns 19th save

Williams issued one walk over 0.2 scoreless innings Friday, striking out two and earning a save against Cincinnati.

Williams entered the game with two runners on base but was able to work around trouble to finish the 7-3 win. He blew a save Wednesday against the Cubs after a nine-inning scoreless streak but was able to rebound in his first outing since the misstep. He brought his ERA back down to 1.95 with a 43:18 K:BB and 19 saves through 32.1 frames.

  • Cody Bolton RP | HOU

Pirates' Cody Bolton: Recalled from Triple-A

Pittsburgh recalled Bolton from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Bolton has surrendered 11 earned runs on 17 hits and 10 walks in just nine innings this season at the MLB level. The 26-year-old right-hander will operate in a low-leverage relief role.

  • Diamondbacks' Konnor Pilkington: Designated for assignment

Pilkington was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Friday.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Dominic Canzone, who is joining the Diamondbacks ahead of Friday's game versus the Pirates. Pilkington has made only appearance at the MLB level in 2023, and that was with the Guardians in April.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Recalled from Triple-A

Arizona recalled Martinez from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Martinez spent some time in the Diamondbacks' bullpen in late June but was not called on to make his MLB debut. He'll get another chance in Arizona's final series before the All-Star break. The 21-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.77 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 31 innings this season at the Triple-A level.

  • Drey Jameson RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Drey Jameson: Goes on IL with sore elbow

Arizona placed Jameson on the 15-day injured list Friday with elbow inflammation.

Jameson had been pitching well in long relief for the Diamondbacks before a rough outing Thursday versus the Mets in which he allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk over three innings. The 25-year-old will be out until at least July 22 and is set to undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the elbow issue.

  • Jose Castillo RP | NYM

Padres' Jose Castillo: Sent back to Triple-A

Castillo was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Castillo made his season debut with the Padres this past Tuesday against the Angels and was charged with four earned runs while recording only one out. He missed the first three months of the year with a shoulder injury and doesn't seem to be fully back into form.

  • Alek Jacob RP | SD

Padres' Alek Jacob: Arrives in majors

The Padres selected Jacob's contract from Double-A San Antonio on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Jacob fell to the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft following a four-year NCAA career at Gonzaga, but he's done nothing but dominate minor-league hitters to the tune of a 1.82 ERA and 138:25 K:BB in 104 professional innings. The 25-year-old right-hander could prove to be a weapon in relief for the Padres as he completes his swift ascent to the big leagues.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | PIT

Nationals' Joe La Sorsa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned La Sorsa to Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

La Sorsa was lit up for four runs on six hits and two walks over two innings during his last appearance Wednesday against the Reds. As a result, he'll head back to the minors. Joan Adon was promoted to Washington in a corresponding move.
