Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Reyes has already spent four separate stints on the active roster this season, all of which have been very brief. The 30-year-old righty owns a 7.45 ERA in 9.2 major-league innings this season and a 6.25 ERA in 36 frames for Salt Lake, so he's unlikely to see anything other than low-leverage work during his time with the team.

Cronin was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with blisters on his right hand.

The assignment was made retroactive to Wednesday, so Cronin could return as soon as Sept. 22. The White Sox are unlikely to rush him back, however, as he's allowed 10 earned runs in 7.2 innings of relief this season, walking as many batters as he's struck out (six). Jose Urena's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

Walter was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.

Walter's latest big-league stint lasted seven days. It won't be one he remembers fondly, as he gave up 11 runs in 5.1 innings of work across a pair of relief appearances. Zack Weiss was called up to take his place on the roster.

Weiss will get his first chance to pitch in a Red Sox uniform after being claimed off waivers from the Angels in late August. The 31-year-old righty owns a 5.79 ERA in 18.2 career MLB innings.

Cox was placed on the 60-day injured list with a sprained left knee Saturday.

Cox suffered the injury while running to cover first base after getting hit by a comebacker Friday against Toronto. The team believes he suffered some sort of ACL injury, per Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City, and he'll receive an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage. He'll finish his rookie season having recorded a 4.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and one save in 35.2 innings.

Hernandez (1-10) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks over one-third of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save Friday versus the Blue Jays.

Austin Cox started the eighth inning but sustained a left knee injury after facing two batters. Hernandez proceeded to allow an inherited runner to score before getting tagged for three runs himself. He has three blown saves and two saves over his last seven appearances, a span in which he's allowed six runs over six innings. He's at a 4.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 74:25 K:BB with three saves, 12 holds and five blown saves through 63.2 innings this season. Hernandez should continue to see high-leverage looks, but the quality of his performance of late puts him on the fantasy fringe.

Marinaccio was called up by the Yankees on Saturday.

Marinaccio owns a 4.08 ERA in 46.1 major-league innings this season, with a 27.6 percent strikeout rate more or less canceling out an inflated 12.6 percent walk rate. He'll give the Yankees an extra bullpen option, taking the roster spot that had belonged to Luis Severino, who landed on the injured list with a side injury.

Thornton will serve as the Mariners' opening pitcher Saturday against the Rays, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Like many relievers, Thornton broke into the big leagues as a starter, but he's pitched exclusively in relief for the past three seasons, while his three "starts" in 2021 were similar opener appearances. Thornton has thrown two innings in both of his last two appearances, but he's unlikely to throw much more than that Saturday before turning the game over to Luke Weaver, who is expected to work in bulk relief.
