  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Optioned to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Theodore Tollefson of Zone Coverage reports. The transaction clears a spot on the active roster for Justin Lawrence, who was acquired via trade. Funderburk has managed a 3.44 ERA for the Twins this season, but that's come with an ugly 10:16 K:BB over 18.1 innings.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Recalled from Triple-A

The Twins recalled Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. Funderburk was dispatched to Triple-A earlier this month but will rejoin the Twins' bullpen after appearing in five games for St. Paul, where he allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts across five innings.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Heading to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. Though he's been one of six Twins pitchers to record a save this season and leads the club with six holds, Funderburk will wind up losing his spot in the bullpen as his control continued to slip. He has a 2.81 ERA in 16 innings but a more unsightly 1.38 WHIP and 10:13 K:BB on the season. The Twins recalled left-hander Kendry Rojas from Triple-A to bolster the bullpen.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Back from paternity leave

The Twins reinstated Funderburk from the paternity list Friday. Minnesota optioned Kendry Rojas to Triple-A St. Paul to open a spot on the 26-man roster for Funderburk, who owns a 2.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 8:7 K:BB across nine innings this season. Funderburk has also recorded four holds and one save.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Moves to paternity list

The Twins placed Funderburk on the paternity list Tuesday. The left-hander is stepping away from the team for a few days to spend some time with his growing family, and he'll likely be gone for the entirety of the three-games series against the Mets that begins Tuesday. Funderburk is one of five Twins pitchers with a single save this season, and he's given up just two earned runs over nine innings despite an underwhelming 1.56 WHIP and 8:7 K:BB.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: May not make Opening Day roster

Funderburk may not make the Opening Day roster with four left-handed relievers competing for a spot in the bullpen, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Funderburk has a 1.59 ERA and 6:1 K:BB in 5.2 innings this spring. It's odd that Funderburk is on the roster bubble considering he's having a strong spring and coming off a strong second half. He had a 2.61 ERA and 21:8 K:BB in 20.2 innings after the All-Star break last year. Still, he's seen as behind veterans Taylor Rogers, Anthony Banda and Andrew Chafin. It seems unlikely the Twins would have four left-handed relievers in the bullpen, so Funderburk may be the odd man out. A trade of one of the lefty relievers also seems like a possibility.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Moves up to big club

The Twins recalled Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Orioles. Minnesota is designating Funderburk as its 27th man for the twin bill, so he'll presumably head back to St. Paul after the second game of the day concludes. The 28-year-old southpaw has previously made two relief appearances for the Twins this season, giving up two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five over four innings.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Will be 27th man Wednesday

The Twins will recall Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul to serve as the 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Orioles, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Funderburk has made two relief appearances at the major-league level this season, surrendering two runs with a 5:1 K:BB across four innings. He'll likely be returned to St. Paul after the twin bill.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Recalled from St. Paul

The Twins recalled Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday. After pitching 5.2 shutout frames with a 7:2 K:BB to start the year in Triple-A, Funderburk will now join the big-league bullpen to replace Scott Blewett, who was DFA'd in a corresponding move. Funderburk owns a 5.01 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 46.2 frames in his MLB career, so he may be limited to low-leverage situations to begin with while on the Twins.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Starting up rehab assignment

Funderburk (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. Funderburk is ready for his first game action since mid-July after an extended recovery from a left oblique strain. He'll likely require at least a couple outings in the minors before the Twins are comfortable bringing him back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: On way back to Minnesota

The Twins recalled Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. He'll take the roster spot vacated by Jay Jackson, who has been designated for assignment. Funderburk has struck out 14 and allowed just one run over eight innings with St. Paul since being optioned last month.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Optioned to minors

The Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Funderburk tossed 1.1 scoreless frames in relief Sunday against the Rangers and will head back to the minors until the Twins have need of a fresh bullpen arm. He has a 5.18 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Not sharp in season debut

Funderburk gave up a run over 1.2 innings with a strikeout, walk and home run allowed in Sunday's loss to Kansas City. Funderburk wasn't sharp during the outing as he also had an error and a balk. He made the roster as the second lefty in the bullpen, but he'll likely be used in low-leverage spots initially like in Sunday's loss.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Absent from ALDS roster

Funderburk isn't on the Twins' ALDS roster, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Funderburk was included in the Twins' wild-card roster after allowing just one run in 12 innings over the final month of the season, but he didn't appear in either game versus Toronto and will now lose his spot. Funderburk will be replaced by Bailey Ober, who is set to start Game 1 on Saturday.

  • Twins' Kody Funderburk: Headed to big leagues

Funderburk's contract was selected by the Twins prior to Monday's game against Cleveland, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Funderbrunk has fared well in 2023, spending the majority of his time at Triple-A St. Paul. He owns a 2.60 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with a 75:21 K:BB across 37 appearances (two starts). Bailey Ober was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move, and Oliver Ortega (back) was shifted to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
