  • Rangers' Caleb Boushley: Sent down to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Boushley to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Boushley will head back to the minors to make room on Texas' pitching staff for new acquisition Merrill Kelly. Boushley gave up three runs in 5.1 innings during his most recent stint in the big leagues, giving him a 5.05 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP through 35.2 innings on the season.

  • Jacob Latz RP | TEX

Rangers' Jacob Latz: Pushed back to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Latz to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

After giving up three runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings during Texas' loss to Seattle on Thursday, Latz will be sent back to Triple-A to help make room for new additions Danny Coulombe and Phil Maton. Despite his latest outing, Latz still owns a 3.23 ERA through 55.2 innings with Texas this year, making him a safe bet to return to Arlington at some point down the line.

  • Sam Bachman RP | LAA

Angels' Sam Bachman: Relegated to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Bachman to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The 25-year-old righty will be pushed off the 26-man roster in order to clear space in the Halos' bullpen for the newly acquired Andrew Chafin. Bachman owns a 5.02 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 14.1 innings in the majors this season but could still return to Anaheim later in the year as bullpen depth.

  • Joe Rock RP | CHW

Rays' Joe Rock: Back to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Rock to Triple-A Durham on Friday.

Rock was summoned to the majors Thursday and allowed two hits and no walks while striking out five across three scoreless innings during the Rays' 7-4 loss to the Yankees. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he has started in 15 of 20 games and has a 4.63 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 71:33 K:BB across 81.2 innings.

  • Trent Thornton RP | CHC

Mariners' Trent Thornton: Diagnosed with torn Achilles

The Mariners placed Thornton on the 15-day injured list Friday with a torn left Achilles.

Thornton left Thursday's game against the Rangers on a cart, and imaging confirmed Friday that the right-hander tore his Achilles tendon. The diagnosis will put an early end to his season, and he'll finish 2025 with a 4.68 ERA and 1.30 WHIP alongside a 32:14 K:BB through 42.1 innings. The 31-year-old will likely miss the vast majority of the 2026 season as well.

  • Jackson Kowar RP | BAL

Mariners' Jackson Kowar: Back in Seattle

The Mariners recalled Kowar from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

Kowar was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday, but he'll turn around and head back to Seattle to replace the injured Trent Thornton (Achilles). Kowar will likely take on a middle-relief role with the Mariners after posting a 1.54 ERA and 0.86 WHIP through 11.2 innings with the big club this season.

  • Joe Boyle SP | TB

Rays' Joe Boyle: Sticking in rotation

Boyle is slated to start Sunday's game against the Dodgers in Tampa.

After Tampa Bay optioned right-hander Taj Bradley to Triple-A Durham last week, Boyle stepped into the open spot in the rotation and made his second start of the season for the big club in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees. Despite being roughed up from six runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks over 3.1 frames, Boyle still owns sparkling ratios (2.82 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 24:9 K:BB in 22.1 innings) at the big-league level this season and appears to have gained some security in the Tampa Bay rotation in the aftermath of Thursday's trade deadline. The Rays acquired right-hander Adrian Houser but shipped out two other starters in Bradley (Twins) and righty Zack Littell (Reds).

  • Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Promoted to majors

The Athletics recalled Nunez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Nunez was acquired from the Padres on Thursday in the Mason Miller and JP Sears trade. Nunez made his MLB debut earlier this season with San Diego, registering a 3.86 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 2:4 K:BB across 4.2 innings. He struck out 14.4 batters per nine innings over 35 frames in the minors.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Locker cleared out

Clase's locker has been cleared out in the Guardians' clubhouse Friday as he remains under investigation by MLB, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Clase was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 as part of MLB's sports-betting investigation, but his locker being cleared out could signal that the Guardians don't expect Clase to be back with the team this season. Teammate Luis L. Ortiz also had his locker cleared out Friday, as he is also on paid leave in the same gambling investigation. Clase's fall from grace has been quick after he finished third in AL Cy Young voting last season. It remains to be seen if he'll pitch again in the majors.

  • Nick Hernandez RP | ATH

Astros' Nick Hernandez: Back with Houston

The Astros recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Hernandez has pitched in three games out of the bullpen for Houston this season, logging a 7.71 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB across 4.2 innings. He's been much better at Triple-A, with a 1.70 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 48:17 K:BB over 37 innings of action.
