Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC
Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Set for rehab assignment next week
Pomeranz (biceps) is expected to head to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday for a rehab assignment, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Pomeranz didn't seem to experience any physical problems during Wednesday's 30-pitch simulated game, though he admitted that he wasn't able to throw his curveball for strikes, which is to be expected after a lengthy absence. The left-hander has been sidelined since the beginning of June due to left biceps tendinitis, but he appears to be on the verge of a return to the big leagues if all goes well next week. Manager Alex Cora did not say whether Pomeranz will require multiple appearances at the minor-league level and it wouldn't come as a surprise if he winds up pitching a couple times for Pawtucket.

Dylan Covey RP | ATL
White Sox's Dylan Covey: Will start Friday
Covey (hip) will take the mound in Texas on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Covey was forced to leave Saturday's start against Oakland due to right hip soreness but was able to toss a side session earlier this week without experiencing any problems. Over eight starts this year, he's posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with a 36:20 K:BB.

Akeel Morris RP | SF
Angels' Akeel Morris: Optioned back to minors
Morris was sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Morris pitched 2.1 innings of relief during Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox, allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out two. The Angels sent the right-hander back to Salt Lake in order to replenish their bullpen, calling up Jake Jewell to take his place. Expect to see Morris back in a middle-relief role with the big-league club in the near future.

Jimmy Yacabonis RP | NYM
Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Promoted by Orioles
Yacabonis was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Steve Melewski of MASN Sports reports.
As expected, Yacabonis will join the Orioles after being scratched from his scheduled start with the Tide on Tuesday. He appears to be in line to take the hill for Thursday's series finale in place of Dylan Bundy, who hit the DL with an ankle injury earlier this week.

Daniel Mengden RP | KC
Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Officially lands on DL
The Athletics placed Mengden (foot) on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.
The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, so Mengden will first be eligible to return July 4. The injury isn't viewed as a significant one for the right-hander, but an exact return date won't be fleshed out until he resumes throwing again. Chris Bassitt was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move and will start Wednesday's game against the Tigers in Mengden's stead.

Ryne Stanek RP | STL
Rays' Ryne Stanek: Confirmed as opener for Thursday
Rays manager Kevin Cash confirmed that Stanek will serve as the team's opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Astros, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Stanek is expected to cover around an inning or two before giving way to long man Ryan Yarbrough, who will handle the heaviest workload for the pitching staff on the day. In the other seven games Stanek has opened this season, he has given up two runs and generated 10 strikeouts over 10 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .118/.211/.176 batting line.

Jason Adam RP | SD
Royals' Jason Adam: Called up from minors
Adam was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, the Royals placed Justin Grimm on the 10-day disabled list due to a right shoulder injury. Across 14 appearances in the big leagues this year, Adam has logged a 4.70 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 15.1 innings of relief. Look for him to serve in low-leverage situations while he's with the club.

Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL
White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Picks up third win
Lopez (3-5) got the win Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over 6.1 innings against the Twins.
Lopez allowed a pair of solo home runs early in the contest and then later fell behind 4-2, but his offense picked him up to take the lead in the sixth and clear the way for his third win of the season. Despite the win, the 24-year-old has now yielded nine runs (eight earned) over 10.2 innings in his last two starts to raise his ERA up to 3.73. He'll look to bring that number back down in Sunday's road start against the Rangers.
-
Jakob Junis RP | TEX
Royals' Jakob Junis: Takes ninth loss of season
Junis (5-9) allowed five runs on seven hits in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday, striking out seven and walking three in five innings.
Junis surrendered four extra-base hits in Tuesday's outing, including three home runs. He's now given up 22 homers on the year, most among all MLB pitchers. The right-hander is 0-5 in June with a 7.14 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. Junis does still have a respectable 90:27 K:BB in 96.1 innings for the season, but his inability to keep runs off the board of late makes him hard to depend on. His next start will be a matchup with the Indians at home.

Ryan Borucki RP | SF
Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Takes loss despite quality start
Borucki (0-1) allowed two runs on six hits in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday, striking out three and walking four in six innings.
Making his major-league debut, Borucki pitched effectively against an Astros club that leads the majors with a .265 team batting average. The 24-year-old managed a quality start despite allowing four doubles and throwing just 55 of 95 pitches for strikes. In 13 starts at Triple-A this year, Borucki has gone 6-5 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. The rookie may be afforded another start in the immediate future, but once Aaron Sanchez (finger) and Jaime Garcia (shoulder) are healthy, Borucki figures to return to the Triple-A squad or find work in the bullpen.
