  • Rob Whalen RP | SEA

Mariners' Rob Whalen: Hits minor-league DL

Whalen (shoulder) was placed on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Rainiers play-by-play broadcaster Mike Curto reports.

Whalen leads the Rainiers with seven wins, which he's garnered over 14 starts. Curto reports that Whalen left his most recent start against Salt Lake last Thursday with shoulder stiffness, which led to Tuesday's move. The 24-year-old has made one appearance at the big-league level this season as well, firing four scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and a walk against the Red Sox on June 15.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Start pushed back one day

Manaea's next scheduled start has been pushed back a day to Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The development is not due to any issue on Manaea's part, but rather, the fact that Chris Bassitt has been called up from Triple-A Nashville to take Daniel Mengden's place in the rotation for the time being. Bassitt just started the second game of a doubleheader against the White Sox last Friday, so rolling him out Wednesday will keep him on a schedule of four days' rest. Meanwhile, Manaea will pick up an extra day of rest after also having gone Friday in the first game of that day's twin bill. The 26-year-old lefty has emerged from a rocky May (1-4, 7.18 ERA) to generate three consecutive quality starts, posting a 2-0 record and 2.81 ERA across 25.2 June innings overall.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Earns 19th save Tuesday

Treinen tossed a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Tigers to collect his 19th save of the season.

Jed Lowrie gave the A's the lead on a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth before Treinen was summoned to close things out. He struck out James McCann on three pitches before inducing line outs against the next two hitters. Treinen's ERA is down to 0.93 on the year and he's proven himself to be one of the most reliable late-inning arms in the majors.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Secures save No. 29

Diaz recorded his 29th save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Orioles, allowing one hit with no strikeouts or walks during a scoreless ninth inning.

Diaz has notched a save during the first two games of the series in Baltimore, and hasn't allowed a run during his last 10 save opportunities. The 24-year-old has a 2.63 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with a 66:13 K:BB over 41 innings, and has converted 29-of-32 save chances thus far in 2018.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Selected as Thursday's starter

Johnson will start Thursday's game against the Angels, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Johnson will get the call to take the mound in place of Steven Wright, who hit the DL with a knee injury Tuesday. Johnson has appeared in 22 games for the Red Sox this season -- including one start -- and holds a 4.50 ERA over 36 innings of work.

  • Keegan Akin RP | BAL

Orioles' Keegan Akin: Departs early Tuesday

Akin exited Tuesday's start for Double-A Bowie early with groin tightness, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Akin allowed two runs on one hit and six walks over four innings before being lifted from the contest with the groin discomfort. The 23-year-old entered Tuesday's game with a 2.53 ERA on the year.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Could start Thursday

Johnson is an option to start Thursday's game against the Angels, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox have an opening in their rotation Thursday with Steven Wright (knee) landing on the disabled list, and either Johnson or Hector Velazquez is expected to fill the spot. Manager Alex Cora figures to reveal his decision at some point in the next day or two.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Simulated game scheduled for Wednesday

Pomeranz (biceps, neck) will throw a simulated game Wednesday, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Pomeranz has been out since the end of May after being shut down with biceps tendinitis. Assuming his sim game goes well, he'll likely head out for at least one rehab start before returning to Boston. If he only needs one rehab start, he'll likely return near the end of the first week of July.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Heading to disabled list

Mengden will be placed on the disabled list with a foot sprain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Mengden left his start Saturday with the injury. He has no timetable for his return, though he didn't suffer any structural damage, Slusser reports. Chris Bassitt will replace him in the rotation.

  • Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Could start for Orioles on Thursday

Yacabonis will be recalled by the Orioles in the coming days, David Hall of The Virginian-Pilot reports.

The Orioles need to call up a starter to fill in for the injured Dylan Bundy (ankle) on Thursday, and Yacabonis appears to be the man for the job after being scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Look for confirmation to come one way or another in the near future.
