  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Another quality start

Borucki gave up two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five in 6.1 innings Tuesday in Boston. He did not factor in the decision.

He took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, but Boston scored four times in that frame en route to a 7-2 victory. Borucki has given up two runs in six-plus frames in three of his last four starts, but has just one win and has not fanned more than five in a start over that span. If the Blue Jays stick with a six-man rotation, Borucki will line up for a two-start week next week -- first in Baltimore and then at home against the Rays.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Resumes throwing

Barnes (hip) resumed throwing Tuesday, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Barnes has been battling left hip inflammation for a few days and was temporarily unable to throw. He last pitched Sept. 3. Given the relatively short length of his absence, he likely won't require a particularly long time to build back up, though a precise timeline is unclear.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Expected to open again Wednesday

Hendriks will be the opener Wednesday against the Orioles if he's not required out of the bullpen Tuesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Hendriks has opened three games for the A's this season, his first starts since 2014. He has a 4.91 ERA in 3.2 innings in those games, compared to a 6.75 ERA in 12 innings as a conventional reliever.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Expected to miss all of 2019

Manaea is expected to be sidelined for all of 2019 after undergoing shoulder surgery, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The team will know for sure following the procedure, but the current expectation is that it will take a full year for the lefty to recover. That's unfortunate news for the A's and for Manaea, who had posted a career-best 3.59 ERA through 27 starts.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Set for season-ending shoulder surgery

Manaea will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Sept. 19.

Manaea was shut down with rotator cuff tendinitis in late August and will wind up being out for the rest of the year. He'll finish the season with a 12-9 record and a 3.59 ERA in 27 starts. It's unclear whether the recovery time for the surgery will put him at risk of missing start of next season. More should become clear following the procedure.

  • Nick Rumbelow RP | SEA

Mariners' Nick Rumbelow: Recalled by Seattle

Rumbelow was recalled from Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old pitched 13.1 innings for the Mariners earlier in the season, recording a 6.75 ERA while allowing six homers. He'll be one of many low-leverage arms in the team's expanded September bullpen.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Struggles in loss

Barria (10-9) surrendered four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two over three innings in a loss to the Rangers on Monday.

Barria struggled with his control, throwing just 31 of his 60 pitches for strikes in an abbreviated outing. The 21-year-old was coming off a pair of scoreless starts, but Monday's rough outing serves as a reminder that he is best left as a streaming option in favorable matchups. Barria will look to rebound in a home start against the Mariners on Sunday.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Polishes off Angels

Leclerc walked one and struck out two to register his 10th save of the season in Monday's 5-2 win over the Angels.

Leclerc has been phenomenal, throwing 16 consecutive scoreless innings since July 28 while allowing just three hits during that span. The major bugaboo during Leclerc's first two seasons in the majors was an unseemly 7.9 BB/9, but he's lowered that to 3.9 this season and that mark has fallen even further since he became the Rangers' closer (2.7).

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Royals' Jakob Junis: Records third straight quality start

Junis (8-12) was solid in Monday's win over the White Sox. He went eight innings and gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out five.

This marked the third consecutive quality start for Junis, who now has a 1.88 ERA and 0.63 WHIP over that span. Junis has pitched well of late as he hasn't allowed more than two runs in a start since Aug. 1. He'll look to keep the streak going Saturday against Minnesota.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: To open Tuesday

Duffey will serve as the opener Tuesday against the Yankees, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Duffey figures to throw the customary 1-to-2 innings and then make way for a long reliever. Through 14 relief appearances for the Twins this season, he's accrued a 9.00 ERA with 15 strikeouts over 19 frames.
