Garcia is slated to start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Mets, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

New York formally called Garcia up from its alternate site earlier in the day and designated him as the 29th man for the twin bill, but it wasn't immediately clear whether he would make his MLB debut in the first or second game. With the Yankees having since revealed that Michael King will start Game 1, Garcia will toe the rubber in the nightcap. The 21-year-old right-hander split the 2019 campaign between High-A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, logging a 4.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 165:54 K:BB in 111.1 innings.

The Royals recalled Hernandez from their alternate training site ahead of Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Kansas City has been developing the right-hander as a starter, but his big-league debut will likely come out of the bullpen considering he hasn't pitched above the Low-A level during his minor-league career. Despite his lack of high-level experience, the 23-year-old's big fastball could allow him to find some initial success in the majors as a multi-inning weapon out of the bullpen.

Pivetta is being stretched out at the team's alternate training camp site, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Pivetta hasn't pitched as a starter for a while, so the Red Sox will allow the right-hander time to build up his pitch count. With Boston's starting rotation in shambles, the Red Sox need immediate support, but Pivetta will need at least a couple of weeks to be extended.

King will start the first game of the Yankees' doubleheader Sunday versus the Mets.

The Yankees will turn to a pair of rookies to start the twin bill, as the newly recalled Deivi Garcia is expected to take the hill in the nightcap. King has previously made four appearances for the Yankees this season, one as a a starter in three in long relief. Over 13.2 innings, King has given up 10 runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out 12.

Chapman (1-1) pitched a clean ninth inning Saturday while getting all three outs on just 14 pitches as he earned his first victory of the season.

Chapman was called upon to enter the game in the top of the ninth to preserve a 1-1 tie after Adam Ottavino surrendered a game-tying solo home run to Wilson Ramos the prior inning. After allowing a combined three runs in his first two outings, Chapman pitched a quick 1-2-3 inning, which led to the Yankees walking off in the bottom half of the frame. Despite his early struggles, Chapman should have a firm grasp on the closer's role despite Zack Britton (hamstring) being close to a return.

Garcia is expected to make his MLB debut in one of the two halves of the doubleheader, likely in a starting role. The 21-year-old pushed his way to Triple-A midway through last season after striking out 37 percent of the batters he faced at Double-A Trenton, but he struggled with the jump in competition at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 25.3 percent strikeout rate in 40 innings. The slightly built right-hander should still be able to generate a good amount of swings-and-misses in the majors, but his shaky command could routinely put his ratios at risk.

Pressly recorded the save in both games of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the A's, throwing two perfect innings and striking out four.

After fanning one batter in the matinee, Pressly was even more dominant in the nightcap, striking out the side on only 11 pitches. The 31-year-old is up to six saves on the season, and his efforts Saturday lowered his ERA to 4.22, although his 15:4 K:BB through 10.2 innings offers a better picture of how he's pitched.

Brasier (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out one over 1.1 innings to earn the win Saturday versus the Nationals.

Starter Chris Mazza went only 2.1 innings, and Brasier was deemed the most effective of five relievers to follow him before Matt Barnes closed it out. Brasier has posted six consecutive scoreless outings spanning 6.2 innings -- in that span, he's allowed four hits, three walks and struck out eight. The 33-year-old has 4.97 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 14:6 K:BB across 12.2 innings overall.

Barnes struck out one and walked one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in a 5-3 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

Barnes walked Kurt Suzuki with one out but retired Brock Holt and Eric Thames to convert his third save of the year. Through 13 appearances, Barnes has a 5.54 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 16 strikeouts across 13 innings. His grip on the closer role isn't firm, but a lack of other options with closing experience could keep Barnes in line for most of the ninth-inning duties for the 11-22 Red Sox.

Fleming (2-0) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out six across 5.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday against the Marlins.

Fleming held the Marlins silent at the plate, allowing only two singles and a double while not surrendering multiple batters to reach base in any inning. As a result, he was able to work efficiently, needing only 74 pitches to retire 16 batters. Through two major-league starts, Fleming has allowed two earned runs with nine strikeouts and two walks across 10.1 innings. He's in line to draw his next start in a rematch against the Marlins on Friday.
