Karinchak struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Royals.

Regular closer Emmanuel Clase had pitched three straight days, so he was presumably unavailable Tuesday. Karinchak stepped up and needed just 12 pitches (eight strikes) to deliver his first save of the season. He had a rough return to the majors with three runs allowed in his first two appearances, but Karinchak has since rattled off a 24-inning scoreless streak with a save, four holds and a win in his last 22 outings. For the year, he has a 1.04 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB through 26 innings while reclaiming a setup role in a strong Guardians bullpen.

Foster was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Foster made just one appearance during his week in the big-league bullpen, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two in a scoreless inning. The 27-year-old will head back to the minors after Michael Kopech (knee) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list.

Tate (4-3) allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over 1.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Blue Jays.

Tate was brought into the game in the fourth inning after an ineffective start from Kyle Bradish. Tate gave up an RBI double to Matt Chapman, but that was the extent of the damage, and the Orioles were able to maintain the lead. It's been a shaky run for Tate lately -- he's posted a 4.40 ERA over his last 14.1 innings, but he's been a little unlucky as evidenced by his 0.84 WHIP and 11:0 K:BB in that span. Tuesday's game had a playoff-like atmosphere, and Tate should continue to see high-leverage opportunities whenever they arise, though Felix Bautista is firmly entrenched as the closer.

The Yankees recalled Garcia from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Twins, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

For the twin bill, the Yankees are designating infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar as their 29th man rather than Garcia, who thus appears poised to remain with the big club beyond Wednesday. A former highly regarded pitching prospect who picked up eight starts for the Yankees between the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the 23-year-old Garcia has seen his long-term outlook take a hit in recent seasons due to poor control in the high minors. He has, however, shown some improvement in that regard in his most recent eight outings between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset, turning in a poor 5.12 ERA but a much stronger 1.04 WHIP and 23.7 K-BB%. He's projected to serve as a multi-inning arm out of the bullpen while he's up with the Yankees.

Bautista gave up a run on two hits over two innings Tuesday to record his 12th save of the season in a 9-6 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

The right-hander entered the game in the eighth inning with the Orioles clinging to a 6-5 lead and was his usual dominant self, but after they tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the frame, Bautista came back out for the ninth and allowed a run to creep across the plate with two outs. Since the beginning of August, and his ascension to the closer role, Bautista has a 1.53 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 24:3 K:BB through 17.2 innings while converting all nine of his save chances.

White (1-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Blue Jays fell 9-6 to the Orioles, giving up five runs on three hits and three walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander struggled to find the plate and tossed only 36 of 63 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. White is in a tailspin, coughing up 18 runs in only 12 innings over his last three starts to send his ERA with Toronto ballooning to 8.17. With the team in a dogfight for a wild-card spot, the 27-year-old's spot in the rotation is almost certainly in jeopardy.

Morris will start Wednesday's game against the Royals in what's expected to be a bullpen day for the Guardians, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

In his return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 2 in what also marked his MLB debut, Morris struck out three and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over two innings to take a loss against the Mariners. Though the Guardians plan on developing Morris as a traditional starter, he looks like he may deployed as a glorified opener while the Guardians are missing two members of the rotation in Zach Plesac (hand) and Aaron Civale (forearm). Due to the expanded September roster, the Guardians have two stretched-out relievers in Kirk McCarty and Konnor Pilkington who are capable of covering multiple innings behind Morris. As such, Morris likely won't be asked to work deep into his starts and may struggle to qualify for wins.

Herget suffered a blown save after he pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing an inherited runner to score while giving up one hit and striking out a batter in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision.

Herget entered the game with one out in the eighth inning and runners on second and third base, ultimately giving up an RBI groundout to Javier Baez before getting Spencer Torkelson swinging to end the frame. The blown save was his second of the season and first in his last five save chances. Since the beginning of August, the right-hander has allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out 20 batters over 19 innings in 13 appearances. Herget has gone 5-for-7 on save opportunities this year and now owns a 2.60 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 54 punchouts over 55.1 innings in 38 appearances.

Mayers pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision.

Mayers tossed three scoreless innings to open Tuesday's outing before Spencer Torkelson ripped an RBI single in the top of the fourth. He later allowed another run in the top of the sixth on a Javier Baez groundout. The 30-year-old rebounded well after he gave up seven runs to the Yankees his last time out, producing his longest start of the campaign. Since joining the Angels rotation Aug. 24, Mayers has compiled a 4.30 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 12 strikeouts over 14.2 frames in three starts.

Chafin (1-3) blew the save and got a loss after he allowed two unearned runs on one hit and a walk in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning defeat to the Angels.

Chafin was called upon to protect a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 10th, but a throwing error by Javier Baez with one out in the frame derailed his outing. A run came around to score on the miscue and then Magneuris Sierra notched a walk-off RBI single later in the frame. Both runs were unearned for the left-hander, but he was tagged with his first blown save of the season. Chafin has allowed just the two unearned tallies over 6.2 innings in his last seven appearances.
