Leclerc allowed one hit and struck out two over a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Angels.

Leclerc, who hadn't pitched since last Friday, was probably going to pitch regardless of the situation. As it was, the Rangers were leading 4-2 in the eighth inning, and he was warming up for what could have been a save. However, the Rangers plated three runs in the bottom of the frame, making it a non-save opportunity for the closer. The rust did not have an effect on Leclerc, who found the zone on 11 of his 14 pitches.

Weissert was optioned down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following the Yankees' victory over Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Weissert made 11 appearances for the Yankees during which he recorded a 6.10 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 10.1 innings. The move frees up a spot on the Yankees' big-league roster, leaving room for Scott Effross to be activated Thursday.

Davidson (1-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits with three punchouts over five innings against the Rangers.

Davidson was the victim of a few timely hits Wednesday, as three of the five baserunners he allowed came around to score. The southpaw's inability to strand runners is emblematic of his season as a whole; if he had enough innings to qualify, his 65.2 percent LOB percentage would be the lowest among starting pitchers this season. He will carry a 6.80 ERA into his next start.

Foley allowed three runs on five hits across an inning of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles. He struck out one.

Foley entered the game with Baltimore up 5-1 in the eighth, and the Tigers decided to let the righty ride despite his struggles. He's now allowed runs in his last two appearances and has an 11.37 ERA this month across 6.1 innings. Foley's season ERA is still a respectable 3.65, though he's been trending in the wrong direction lately.

Pressly got the save in Wednesday's win over the Rays, allowing a walk while striking out a batter over one inning.

Pressly entered the game in the bottom of the ninth, making quick work of the first two batters he faced before walking Jose Siri with two outs. The right-hander was able to get Taylor Walls to ground out to end the contest, earning his 30th save of the season. The 33-year-old has now converted nine consecutive save chances, producing a 2.38 ERA and 0.62 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 11.1 innings in his last 12 appearances.

Holmes has given up runs in five of his past six outings, and manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday the Yankees will take a committee approach "on a matchup basis" going forward for the bullpen, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Holmes allowed only one run over his first six innings after he returned from the injured list in late August, but the right-hander is now scuffling once again and has lost his grip on the closer role. The 29-year-old still has a 2.55 ERA for the season, though he's allowed 12 earned runs in 19 outings since the All-Star break. Boone didn't specify his preferred option for save chances, but lefties Aroldis Chapman and Wandy Peralta could now be in the mix as well as Scott Effross (shoulder), who will be activated from the injured list Thursday.

Zerpa (knee) was pulled from his rehab start in Triple-A Omaha early due to discomfort in his left arm, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Zerpa was struck by a ball that came right back at him off the bat during his previous start, so it is possible that the two incidents are connected. Nonetheless, the Royals will determine their approach with Zerpa following an evaluation of his arm.

Chargois will open Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Chargois previously served as the Rays' opener on Sept. 6 when he gave up two earned runs over two innings. However, he has made five consecutive scoreless appearances out of the bullpen. Ryan Yarbrough is expected to receive the bulk of the workload after Chargois is removed.

Stiever (lat) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Stiever has resided on the White Sox's 60-day injured list all season while recovering from the surgery he required last August to address a right lat injury. Even if he had been healthy for spring training, Stiever likely would have been on the outside looking in for a rotation spot with the White Sox, so he shouldn't be viewed as a candidate to join the big club whenever he's formally activated. The White Sox will likely just want to see Stiever make an appearance or two for Charlotte to feel more confident about his health heading into the offseason, when the organization will have to decide whether to tender him a contract for 2023.

Effross (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Effross made a rehab appearance at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday and allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while failing to strike out a batter in a relief inning. The right-hander should be available out of the bullpen for Thursday's series opener against the Red Sox after missing just over a month. Manager Aaron Boone plans to take a committee approach for the late innings, per Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record, so Effross could be in the mix for some save chances if he pitches well once activated.
