  • Jakson Reetz C | SEA

Giants' Jakson Reetz: Heads back to Triple-A

Reetz was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

With Patrick Bailey getting activated off the concussion injured list, Reetz was no longer needed for catching depth at the big-league level. Reetz has a .217/.357/.435 slash line with two home runs in 15 games at Triple-A.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Batting third in return

Bailey (concussion) was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday and is starting behind the dish and hitting third against the Reds.

Bailey hit .278 with three home runs and one steal in 25 games prior to suffering a concussion May 3. He should take on the primary catcher role going forward.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Homer, double in win

Campusano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers.

Campusano opened the scoring with a third-inning solo shot. He added a double in the ninth, and pinch runner Tyler Wade scored on Luis Arraez's walkoff single. Campusano has reached base safely in each of his last six games, going 7-for-19 (.368) with two walks and six RBI in that span. The catcher is up to three homers, 10 doubles, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored and a .283/.323/.442 slash line through 35 contests this season in a starting role behind the plate.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Scores three times in win

Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in Friday's win over the Cardinals.

Contreras was the offensive catalyst for the Brewers on Friday night as he crossed the plate a team-high three times. He also collected his third multi-walk game of the season as part of a fantastic start to 2024. The 26-year-old catcher is slashing .340/.420/.520 with five homers, 30 RBI and 35 runs scored over 174 plate appearances.

  • Jason Delay C | BOS

Pirates' Jason Delay: Moves to 60-day IL

The Pirates transferred Delay (knee) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Delay will give up his spot on the 40-man roster in order to make room for Daulton Jefferies, who was acquired in a trade with the Giants on Friday. Delay was already expected to be out until July after undergoing knee surgery in April, so his move to the 60-day IL has virtually no impact on his return timeline. He has resumed catching during bullpen sessions, but he still has a long way to go before returning to the Pirates' lineup.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

    Marlins' Nick Fortes: Resting Friday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Philadelphia, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Fortes will cede backstop duties to Christian Bethancourt. In May, Fortes is batting 2-for-14 (.143) with a solo home run.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Out 10 weeks following arm surgery

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Contreras is likely to be sidelined for about 10 weeks after successful surgery Wednesday to repair a fractured left forearm, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Contreras had offered a 6-to-8 week timetable himself earlier this week, but indications are that it will probably be a bit longer than that. It puts the catcher out likely until right around the All-Star break. Ivan Herrera will operate as the Cardinals' primary catcher while Contreras is sidelined, with Pedro Pages backing him up.

  • Ivan Herrera DH | STL

Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Takes seat Thursday

Herrera isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Herrera will get a day off Thursday after going 2-for-4 during Tuesday's game against the Mets. In his absence, Pedro Pages will pick up a start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • Blake Sabol C | BOS

Giants' Blake Sabol: Getting steady playing time

Sabol will serve as the Giants' designated hitter and No. 7 hitter in Thursday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Sabol will pick up his fourth start in five games, though he'll be filling a non-defensive role Thursday after each of the prior three starts came at catcher. The 26-year-old should continue to see the bulk of the action behind the dish while both Patrick Bailey (concussion) and Tom Murphy (knee) are on the injured list. Sabol has gone 6-for-12 with a double and a walk since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento last weekend.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Getting day off

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Stephenson was behind the plate for both of the past two days and the Reds are closing out their series in Arizona with an afternoon game, so he'll receive a breather Thursday. Luke Maile will serve as the Reds' starting catcher in his place.
