Andrew Knizner C | BOS
Diamondbacks' Andrew Knizner: Claimed by Snakes
The Diamondbacks claimed Knizner off waivers from the Rangers on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Reno.
Knizner was DFA'd by Texas on Tuesday after posting a .394 OPS in 93 big-league plate appearances. He'll now join the Diamondbacks organization and serve as an organizational depth piece at Triple-A Reno in the wake of Gabriel Moreno's groin injury. Luis Frias was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Out of lineup Thursday
Alvarez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez was behind the plate for Wednesday's 5-3 win, but Luis Torrens started at catcher in the series opener and is back in the lineup for the finale. Alvarez did come off the bench in the middle of Tuesday's game and delivered a hit, so it's possible the Mets look to sub him in for Torrens at some point Thursday.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: Getting afternoon off
Murphy is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.
Murphy will take a seat for the Thursday afternoon contest after he caught all nine innings of Wednesday night's 8-5 loss while going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Travis d'Arnaud will settle in behind the dish for Atlanta in the series finale.

Patrick Bailey C | CLE
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting out Thursday
Bailey is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Giants are concluding their series in Washington with a day game, so Bailey will get some rest after catching all nine innings of Wednesday night's 7-4 win. Jakson Reetz will start behind the plate Thursday.

Kyle Higashioka C | TEX
Padres' Kyle Higashioka: Cranks 14th homer
Higashioka went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 9-8 extra-inning win against the Pirates on Wednesday.
Higashioka gave San Diego its first lead when he slammed a three-run shot to center field in the fourth inning. The long ball was the backstop's 14th of the campaign, four more than the career high of 10 he had established in three consecutive campaigns coming into 2024. Higashioka's trio of RBI on Wednesday also pushed him to a career-high mark with 37 on the season.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Receiving Wednesday off
Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Smith started the first two games of the series but will sit for the finale after going 0-for-8 with an RBI and three strikeouts. Austin Barnes will step in behind the plate to catch for righty Gavin Stone.

Pedro Pages C | STL
Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Heading to bench with RHP on mound
Pages is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Pages had started in each of the last three games while the Cardinals faced left-handed pitchers, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday as the Rays send right-hander Taj Bradley to the bump. Willson Contreras will step back in behind the plate after serving as the Cardinals' designated hitter in each of the last three contests.

Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Filling in for resting Ruiz
Adams will start at catcher and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Giants.
For the first time since July 28, Adams will crack the Washington lineup while top backstop Keibert Ruiz gets a day off. So long as Ruiz doesn't show any signs of wearing down from his heavy workload, Adams will likely be in store for limited opportunities moving forward.

Ali Sanchez C | NYY
Marlins' Ali Sanchez: Getting second straight start
Sanchez will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds.
Sanchez will pick up a second consecutive start and could see the majority of the work behind the plate for the foreseeable future after Nick Fortes (quadricep) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The Marlins recalled Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville to provide another option at catcher, but Pereda is a 28-year-old rookie who has just five MLB plate appearances to his name. Sanchez is slashing .180/.255/.180 over his 20 games with the Marlins this season and shouldn't be viewed as a viable fantasy option outside of NL-only leagues.
