D'Arnaud (foot) is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Sunday against the Royals, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After battling a foot injury, the 37-year-old is making his first start in a week due to Logan O'Hoppe landing on the injured list due to a fractured wrist. D'Arnaud has tallied just 19 plate appearances through the Angels' first 28 games of the season, but he's now poised to operate as the club's primary catcher while O'Hoppe is on the shelf. Sebastian Rivero was called up to take over the backup job.

The Angels placed O'Hoppe on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left wrist fracture.

O'Hoppe departed Saturday's game against the Royals after being struck by a foul tip behind the plate. The 26-year-old is without an official timeline for his return, but it seems likely he'll be sidelined beyond the 10-day minimum. Travis d'Arnaud should step in as the Halos' primary catcher while O'Hoppe is on the shelf. Sebastian Rivero was called up Sunday to take over the backup job.

Diaz isn't in the Astros' lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

He'll begin on the bench with Christian Vazquez doing the catching. Diaz is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 6-for-20 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI.

Wells went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two walks against Houston in Saturday's 8-3 victory.

Wells swatted a solo homer in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and added a run-scoring single in the ninth. This was arguably the catcher's best offensive game this season -- it was the first time he's reached base four times through 22 contests, and the long ball was his first since Opening Day. It's been a rough start to the campaign for Wells, as he's carrying a .635 OPS with two homers and four RBI across 80 plate appearances. However, Wells has propped up his contributions by posting a 15:14 BB:K, leading him to an acceptable .338 OBP.

Perez went 3-for-5 with a home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's win over the Angels.

Perez launched his fourth homer of the season with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the second inning and later plated a run with an RBI single as he posted his second three-hit game of the year. Despite Saturday's strong outing, the backstop continues to have an underwhelming season with a .186 average and .555 OPS through 108 plate appearances.

O'Hoppe was removed from Saturday's game against the Royals due to left wrist irritation.

While playing defense in the bottom of the seventh, O'Hoppe took a foul ball directly off his exposed left wrist and was in obvious pain. Prior to leaving the contest, the 26-year-old went 0-for-3 at the plate. Travis d'Arnaud (foot) has replaced O'Hoppe behind the plate.

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and five RBI in Saturday's 17-1 rout of the Orioles.

The veteran first baseman took position player Weston Wilson deep for a three-run shot in the ninth inning, part of a 10-run final frame for the Red Sox. It was Contreras' fifth homer of the year, and through 26 games he's slashing .250/.369/.435 with 12 runs and 17 RBI.

The White Sox designated McGuire for assignment Saturday.

The 31-year-old has been serving as the White Sox's backup catcher while Kyle Teel (hamstring) is on the injured list, but McGuire will lose his place on the active and 40-man rosters after slashing just .172/.273/.172 through 34 plate appearances. Drew Romo was selected from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.

The White Sox selected Romo's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.

Romo was outrighted to Triple-A during the offseason but has started the season strong, slashing .298/.385/.561 with four home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored across 68 plate appearances with Charlotte. The 24-year-old's offensive surge will now buy him a spot on the big-league roster, replacing Reese McGuire as Chicago's backup catcher.

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI single in Friday's 12-4 loss to the Yankees.

Diaz was a bright spot on an otherwise rough evening for Houston. The catcher got the Astros on the board with a two-out, RBI single in the second inning before launching his second home run of the season in the seventh. Diaz is slowly starting to heat up after a slow start to the year -- he has at least one hit in each of his last four contests, going 5-for-16 (.313) with three extra-base hits in that span. Overall, Diaz is batting .213 with a .571 OPS, 12 RBI and three runs scored through his first 80 plate appearances in 2026.
