  • Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Placed on injured list

Vargas (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 10, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Vargas was reportedly dealing with shoulder stiffness Monday and now will officially be out for at least 10 days with a strained left shoulder. With Luis Garcia still day-to-day with a hamstring injury, Michael Chavis or the newly recalled Jeter Downs will fill in at second base for the time being.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Giants' J.D. Davis: Batting third Tuesday

Davis is starting at third base and batting third Tuesday against the Dodgers.

David Villar is covering second base and batting sixth while Thairo Estrada heads to the bench. Davis boasts a .370/.393/.630 slash line with two home runs and six RBI through nine games and should continue to see near-everyday playing time while he's swinging such a productive bat.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not in lineup Tuesday

Muncy is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants.

Muncy had a huge night at the dish Monday, going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and a grand slam, but he'll grab some rest Tuesday with the Giants throwing left-hander Alex Wood. Chris Taylor is at third base and batting seventh.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Returns to lineup

Rendon (shoulder) is hitting fourth and playing third base Tuesday against the Nationals, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Rendon was a late scratch from Monday's lineup with soreness in his left shoulder, but he's feeling well enough to hit in the middle of the Angels' lineup against Josiah Gray.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Available off bench

Walls (elbow) told reporters that he is available off the bench for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox and could return to the starting lineup as soon as Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Walls is dealing with tendinitis in his left elbow. The infielder will take a seat to start the game against the Red Sox, but he has a good chance of contributing in some capacity before the week ends.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Yankees' Josh Donaldson: Upping workout intensity

Donaldson (hamstring) has been upping the intensity of his workouts, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

It's not clear whether Donaldson has tested out his hamstring with any running yet, but he appears to be making progress. The hope is that he'll be ready for activation when his 10 days are up.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Starting at third base

Burger is starting at third base and batting sixth for the White Sox in Tuesday's game versus the Twins.

The White Sox have been forced to shuffle things around as they deal with multiple injuries and Burger is one of the guys who could see a boost in playing time as a result. He's 3-for-8 with a home run and a pair of doubles in four games with the big club this season.

  • Edmundo Sosa 2B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Starting at third base Tuesday

Sosa is starting at third base and batting seventh Tuesday versus the Marlins.

Alec Bohm is at first base and hitting fifth. Sosa boasts a .333 batting average and .871 OPS through 19 plate appearances this season and should continue to see regular playing time as the Phillies march on without Darick Hall (thumb) and Rhys Hoskins (knee).

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Reds' Kevin Newman: Out of lineup Tuesday

Newman is not in the lineup Tuesday against Atlanta.

Jose Barrero will make back-to-back starts at shortstop to begin the Reds' series versus the defending NL East champions. Newman has slashed just .174/.208/.304 through his first 24 plate appearances this season.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Likely out until Friday

Moncada (back) is expected to remain sidelined for the final two games of the White Sox's series with the Twins on Tuesday and Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Moncada sat out Monday's 4-3 win with back tightness and looks poised to miss at least two more games. The White Sox have an off day Thursday before beginning a home series Friday with Baltimore, so perhaps Moncada will be ready to play by this weekend. Hanser Alberto and Jake Burger could see time at the hot corner while Moncada is banged up.
