Angels' Anthony Rendon: Going through workout Wednesday

Rendon (groin) will go through a normal workout Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rendon took it easy for a couple days after feeling some discomfort in his groin Sunday. He's ready to ramp back up again, however, and should return to Cactus League games before long if all goes well. The veteran third baseman is slated to bat cleanup for the Angels this season.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Expecting to be pitched differently

Paredes focused on hitting breaking balls this winter in anticipation that pitchers will attack him differently in 2024, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Paredes broke out with 31 home runs in 2023, 20 of which came off fastballs. Heading into 2024, he expects to see pitchers mix in more breaking and offspeed pitches to mitigate his ability to pull the ball for power, and he took batting practice from a hitting machine throwing breaking pitches this offseason to prepare. Paredes also noted he may have to be willing to settle for putting the ball in play regularly as opposed to consistently hunting for the long ball.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Homers in return

Suarez started at third base and went 1-for-1 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and an additional run scored in Tuesday's spring game against the Padres.

Suarez missed a week of action while dealing with a side injury. This was his fourth Cactus League game and first home run of the spring.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Plays in sim game Tuesday

Wisdom (quadricep) took at-bats in a simulated game Tuesday and is building back up to being ready for game action, MLB.com reports.

Wisdom has played in only three Cactus League games, and there's no clear timetable for his return, but this is still promising news. The veteran seems like he should be healthy by the start of the regular season, though he'll likely have to settle for a reserve role due to the Cubs adding some corner infield depth in the offseason and Christopher Morel pushing for more playing time as well.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Dealing with groin injury

Rendon reported discomfort in his groin Sunday and will be out through at least Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Manager Ron Washington said he's not too concerned about Rendon's injury but noted the veteran's absence may extend beyond Wednesday if he's not at 100 percent. Rendon is currently 2-for-10 with four walks and two runs scored through six Cactus League games and is in line to serve as the Angels' cleanup hitter once the regular season begins.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Taking live at-bats

Jung (calf) took live batting practice Monday and is scheduled to hit in a minor-league spring game Tuesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The 26-year-old was cleared to resume baseball work over the weekend and has wasted little time ramping up his activities. Jung isn't yet running 100 percent but could soon serve as the designated hitter in Cactus League games.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Returns from side injury

Suarez (side) is starting at third base and batting fifth for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday versus the Padres in his return to the lineup, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Suarez hasn't played in nearly a week after developing some side tightness, but he's now feeling well enough to give it a go. The veteran third baseman was acquired via trade from the Mariners earlier this offseason after slashing .232/.323/.391 with 22 home runs and 96 RBI in 2023.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Back in action Tuesday

Peraza (shoulder) is starting at second base and batting fifth for the Yankees in Tuesday's game versus the Mets in his return to Grapefruit League play.

Peraza missed a week of action with tightness in his right shoulder but is feeling well enough to give it a go in this one. The young infielder is competing for a spot on the Yankees' bench but could wind up back at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre so he can play every day.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Showing power early in spring

Hayes has hit two home runs and a double across his first 14 Grapefruit League at-bats.

Hayes is locked into every day playing at third base thanks to his tremendous defense, but his fantasy value will turn on his ability to hit for power and swipe bases. He took a step forward in the former category in 2023, improving his average launch angle to 13.2 degrees, which resulted in a career-best .182 ISO. He's seemingly carried that approach over into his early at-bats this spring and could be in for a solid regular season while occupying a key position in the Pittsburgh lineup.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Will focus on first base

Miranda (shoulder) will focus on playing first base when he returns to the field this week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Miranda has been limited to DH so far this spring. "We think he can really fit [there, but] it's a position he hasn't played a ton," said manager Rocco Baldelli.

Miranda underwent offseason surgery to remove scar tissue from his right labrum and rotator cuff. He's 3-for-8 with a double in three games this spring. Miranda appears set to begin the season at Triple-A barring an injury elsewhere on the roster, so it will be interesting to see if he's limited to first base in the minors as well.
