Guardians' Jhonkensy Noel: Hits second spring homer

Noel started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's spring game against Milwaukee.

Noel's seventh-inning home run was his second of the Cactus League. He's hit safely in eight of the last nine spring games and looks poised to make the Opening Day roster. Noel is expected to be the right-handed component of a platoon in right field along with lefty Will Brennan. Noel is batting .282 (11-for-39) with two homers, four RBI, one steal and a significant 16 strikeouts this spring.

Twins' Royce Lewis: Set to begin season on IL

Lewis (hamstring) is expected to begin the season on the injured list, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Lewis strained his left hamstring strain while running to first base Sunday in the Twins' 6-5 loss to the Red Sox in Grapefruit League play Monday. He's scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but he could be out for much of April. He suffered another soft-tissue injury -- a right quadricep strain -- on Opening Day last season and ended up missing 58 games.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: In mix for bench job

Lipscomb is competing with Jose Tena for an infield utility job and has a .292/.433/.292 slash line through 13 spring games.

Lipscomb and Tena appeared set to compete for the starting job at third base, but Paul DeJong is likely to fill that role after signing in mid-February. Lipscomb received his first taste of the majors last season and had a .200/.268/.232 slash line with one homer and 11 steals in 61 games.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

Angels' Yoan Moncada: Could need IL stint

Moncada's thumb injury is worse than initially expected and he could require time on the injured list to begin the season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Moncada was scratched from the lineup Friday and may now be unavailable for Opening Day after being poised to start the campaign as the Halos' primary third baseman. The 29-year-old's return timeline should come into focus this week as he continues to be evaluated. Non-roster invitee Tim Anderson could fill the open spot in the lineup while playing second base, which would shift Luis Rengifo to the hot corner.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Dealing with hamstring strain

Lewis was diagnosed with a left hamstring strain after exiting Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The severity of the issue isn't yet known, but it's an ominous development for a player that has been significantly limited by injuries throughout his career. According to Helfand, Lewis will undergo medical imaging Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Exits with leg injury

Lewis left Sunday's spring training game against Boston in the second inning after suffering an apparent left leg injury running to first base.

Lewis was running out a grounder when he pulled up in apparent pain with what looked like a hamstring strain. Given Lewis' lengthy injury history, his availability for Opening Day is in serious jeopardy.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Aiming to return Thursday

Urias (hamstring) will return to the lineup against the Yankees on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Urias has been working through hamstring soreness, but he's expected to return after the Orioles' off-day Wednesday. He's expected to be on Baltimore's Opening Day roster and could get some starts early in the regular season if Gunnar Henderson (side) is on the shelf.

  • Orioles' Emmanuel Rivera: Dealing with sore left shoulder

Rivera is working through left shoulder soreness that popped up during Thursday's spring game against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Rivera started feeling discomfort in his left shoulder when swinging the bat. He'll likely be held out for the next couple of days and could return following the Orioles' off-day Wednesday.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

Pauley was acquired by the Marlins from the Padres in late July in a trade package centered around Tanner Scott. Pauley will begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A after going 7-for-26 with two walks and four RBI in spring training. He appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Padres in 2024 and could see some action in the majors in 2025 if the Marlins are in need of infield depth.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: In Saturday's lineup

Riley (hand) will start at third base and bat second in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.

Riley was forced to make an early exit from Friday's contest after getting hit on the right hand by a pitch, but no damage was done and he's right back in the lineup a day later. The 27-year-old has had a very successful spring so far, going 8-for-26 with two RBI and two runs scored over 11 games.
