  • Zach McKinstry 3B | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Could benefit sans Carpenter

McKinstry will start at third base and bat sixth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Nationals.

Though the Tigers had shown more of a willingness to use Colt Keith at third base of late, McKinstry could end up seeing the bulk of the playing time at the position for the duration of Detroit's first-half schedule. With Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) landing on the injured list Wednesday and likely to be held out through the All-Star break, the Tigers will have openings for Keith at first base or designated hitter, with Spencer Torkelson likely starting at the other spot. McKinstry should thus have a clear path to steady playing time at third base in the short term, though the utility player had already been included in the Detroit lineup in five of the previous six contests. McKinstry's production had been tailing off in the second half of May, but he sported a hot bat throughout June, finishing the month with a .321/.353/.538 slash line to go with two home runs and seven stolen bases in 24 games.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Sitting out first game of twin bill

Durbin is absent from the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Mets.

Durbin will get some rest for the first game of the twin bill but should return to the lineup for the nightcap. Anthony Seigler will start at third base and bat ninth in his major-league debut in the early game.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Receiving rare game off

Bohm is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Padres.

Bohm will exit the lineup for the first time since May 10, ending a stretch of 46 consecutive starts for the veteran infielder. Edmundo Sosa will fill in at third base in the early contest in place of Bohm, who will presumably return to the starting nine for the nightcap.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Sitting out first game of day

Mauricio is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

He'll likely be back in the lineup for the second game of the twin bill, but Mauricio will begin the matinee on the bench. The Mets will roll with Brett Baty at second base.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Remaining on bench Wednesday

Arenado (finger) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

After spraining his right index finger in Sunday's win over the Guardians, Arenado went 0-for-3 as the Cardinals' designated hitter in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Pirates. The injury was still bothering him enough coming out of that game for the Cardinals to hold him out for Tuesday's 1-0 loss, and the veteran third baseman will get another day off to heal Wednesday. Thomas Saggese will cover the hot corner in place of Arenado, who will benefit from a team off day Thursday before potentially returning to the lineup for this weekend's series versus the Cubs.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Hitless since return

Ramirez went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs.

Ramirez, who missed one game after getting hit on the forearm last Thursday, is hitless in the three games since returning to the lineup. The 0-for-12 stretch is his longest hitless run of the season.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Rehab shifts to Triple-A

Marte (oblique) went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run and five RBI for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Marte started at third base and played all nine innings, the first nine-inning game he's played in the field during his rehab assignment. The rehab has taken him from the Arizona Complex League (three starts) to Double-A Chattanooga (four starts) and now to Louisville. Per MLB.com, Marte is slated to play two games with the Bats before being re-evaluated.

  • Max Muncy SS | ATH

Athletics' Max Muncy: Goes yard Tuesday

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Rays.

Muncy got the Athletics on the board with a two-run blast off Shane Baz in the fourth. Muncy had four homers in eight games earlier in June, but this was his extra-base hit since June 14. He's now hit safely in six of his last seven games, but Tuesday's long ball provided the only runs he's driven in over that span. For the season, Muncy is hitting .211/.258/.355 with six homers, 18 RBI, 13 runs, a steal and an 8:51 BB:K in 163 plate appearances.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Doubles among trio of hits

Riley went 3-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Angels.

The three-hit effort was Riley's fifth of the campaign and his first since June 9. The 28-year-old third baseman is batting a strong .286 over his last 98 at-bats, but he has only two home runs and nine RBI during this 24-game period. It's possible Riley will move down the batting order from fourth to fifth once Jurickson Profar (suspension) gets back into the fold, although the latter's return should only aid the former's fantasy upside.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Hot streak continues in victory

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Atlanta.

Rengifo ran his hitting streak up to five games, and he's logged multiple knocks four times during this span. The switch-hitting utility man has been heating up at the dish, slashing .313/.378/.507 with six extra-base hits and eight RBI to go with 10 runs scored and one stolen base over his last 74 plate appearances. Rengifo should continue to play nearly every day despite the recent arrival of second baseman Christian Moore, although the former could be challenged for action at third base once Yoan Moncada (knee) is back in the mix.
