Pirates' Kevin Newman: Sitting with abdominal injury

Newman (abdomen) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the White Sox.

It seemed like he could be placed on the injured list after leaving Sunday's game with lower abdominal muscle discomfort, but he's available off the bench for Tuesday's contest, per Adam Berry of MLB.com. Erik Gonzalez is starting at shortstop and leading off.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Day off Tuesday

McMahon is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

This is McMahon's first day off since Aug. 10. He is hitting .233/.353/.605 with five home runs in 43 at-bats over that 13-game starting streak. Brendan Rodgers is starting at second base and batting seventh.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Rips fifth long ball

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee.

Suarez knocked Brett Anderson out of the game with his home run in the seventh inning. The third baseman now has five long balls on the campaign, but continues to perform below expectations thus far. After a spectacular 2019 in which he hit .271/.358/.572 with 49 home runs, Suarez is slashing just .154/.280/.341 in 91 at-bats to start 2020.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Callup could come Tuesday

The Pirates are expected to promote Hayes from their alternate training site in Altoona in the coming days, Stephen J. Nesbitt of The Athletic reports.

Hayes' glove has been big-league ready for a while now, but the Pirates finally appear prepared to bring the 23-year-old aboard after the team lost infielders Colin Moran (concussion) and Kevin Newman (abdomen) to injuries in Sunday's win over the Brewers. If either player is forced to the injured list, Hayes would likely be promoted as early as Tuesday to step in as the club's everyday third baseman. Hayes' real-life value outstrips his fantasy appeal, as he's not expected to provide premium power or stolen-base production in his initial exposure to big-league pitching. His contact-oriented, all-fields approach should at least allow Hayes to turn in a decent batting average, however.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Goes yard Sunday

Muncy went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Rockies.

Muncy hit one of seven Dodgers homers in the rout, going deep to right field in the eighth inning. Muncy has been showing signs of life at the plate recently, going 4-for-9 with a pair of walks during his current three-game hitting streak. Overall, he is slashing .192/.315/.413 this season.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Goes deep in loss

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a solo shot in Sunday's 11-3 loss to the Dodgers.

McMahon's fourth-inning shot tied the game up at 2-2 before the Dodgers erupted for nine more runs. With three homers in the last four games, the 25-year-old is up to six long balls and 17 RBI with an .802 OPS on the season.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Clocks go-ahead shot

Machado went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-3 win over Houston.

Machado connected for a two-run blast off Enoli Paredes to give the Padres a 5-3 lead in the eighth inning. He's homered in two straight games and is up to eight total roundtrippers on the season alongside an .890 OPS.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Slugs fourth homer

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Cardinals.

Suarez took Daniel Ponce de Leon deep in the first inning, supplying the Reds' with their only runs of the contest. It was his fourth home run of the season and second in his last five games. Suarez is now hitting .149/.282/.310 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI across 103 plate appearances.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Leaves early Sunday

Newman was removed from Sunday's game against the Brewers in the top of the fourth inning with right lower abdominal muscle discomfort, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Newman and first baseman Colin Moran were both pulled in the first half of the contest, with the latter exiting early to be evaluated for a concussion. It's unclear when Newman may have picked up his injury, but he'll finish the day 0-for-2 with a strikeout. JT Riddle came off the bench to replace Newman, who should be viewed as day-to-day heading into the Pirates' upcoming two-game series with the White Sox that begins Tuesday.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Takes extra swings

Muncy took extra batting practice Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Muncy has been mired in a season-long slump and is hitting only .178 after a 1-for-2 performance Saturday. He fractured a finger in summer camp, which could be partly responsible for his slow start to the campaign. Of Muncy's 18 hits this season, six have left the park.
