  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Cubs' Matt Duffy: Out Sunday with tight back

Cubs manager David Ross said Duffy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to "low back tightness," Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Ross seemed to suggest Duffy's injury is a day-to-day concern, so the 30-year-old could be available off the bench and may be ready to rejoin the lineup following Monday's team off day. Duffy has been an unsung hero for the Cubs this season, batting .278 with a home run and three stolen bases across 106 plate appearances.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Stays hot with two more homers

Riley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Sunday's 7-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Riley has been on an absolute tear during his eight-game hitting streak, going 14-for-28 (.500) with six homers, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored in that span. The third baseman's surge has seen him raise his OPS from .769 to .963 in the last week. He's added nine homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs scored across 181 plate appearances this season.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Missing third straight game

Machado (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Ha-Seong Kim will pick up another start at third base in place of Machado, who will be on the bench for the third day in a row on account of a tight shoulder. The Padres haven't indicated that Machado has been cleared to resume full hitting and throwing activities, so he could be in danger of landing on the 10-day injured list if he doesn't show any meaningful improvement heading into the team's four-game series in Milwaukee that begins Monday.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Heads to bench Sunday

Longoria is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Longoria will be on the bench for the series finale and get consecutive days off thanks to Monday's scheduled off day. Mauricio Dubon will start at third base Sunday for the Giants.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

    Phillies' Nick Maton: Sits Sunday

Maton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

The lefty-hitting Maton will take a seat with Boston bringing a southpaw (Eduardo Rodriguez) to the hill for the series finale. Ronald Torreyes will pick up the start at shortstop Sunday, but Maton should fill the strong side of a platoon at the position while Didi Gregorius (elbow) is on the shelf.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Stiff neck pauses rehab stint

Davis (finger) is out of the lineup for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday due to neck stiffness, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The 28-year-old joined Syracuse for a rehab assignment earlier in the week, but he won't start Sunday after the neck issue surfaced. Manager Luis Rojas said Davis will require a couple more rehab games once clear of the neck stiffness, so the third baseman is unlikely to rejoin the Mets until at least the second half of the upcoming week.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Slams ninth home run

Muncy went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Giants.

Muncy homered off Scott Kazmir in the first inning with two outs. It was his fourth three-hit game and third in the last week. The 30-year-old had a rough patch toward the end of April; however, in his last 13 games he is batting .476 with four homers, 10 RBI and 12 runs. He is slashing .291/.457/.532 in 184 plate appearances. His nine long balls lead the Dodgers.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Launches 12th homer

Escobar went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored during Saturday's 7-6 loss to Colorado.

The 32-year-old has gone deep in three of the past four games and has now tripled his homer total from 2020 despite playing eight fewer games. Escobar is in the midst of an eight-game hit streak and has gone 13-for-34 with five home runs, 15 RBI and six runs.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Three hits against Mets

Anderson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mets.

The third baseman is heating up at the plate. Anderson extended his hitting streak to six games with this performance, and he's hitting .283 (17-for-60) in May with two homers, three steals, six RBI and eight runs.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Expected back next week

Davis (finger) isn't expected to return until next week, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Davis has already been out for three weeks with a sprained finger. He's appeared in three rehab games but evidently needs a few more before he's ready to go. Exactly when he'll be activated next week remains unclear.
