Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Going to Triple-A after all

Castro will report to Triple-A Indianapolis despite earlier Saturday reports saying he had been sent to Double-A Altoona, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

Castro found himself without a 26-man roster spot after Gregory Polanco (hip) was activated from the injured list. It initially sounded like Castro would be heading back to Altoona, but he'll instead make his first stop in Triple-A. Castro went just 3-for-17 during his time with Pittsburgh, but he posted a solid .306/.349/.549 slash line across 212 Double-A plate appearances.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sent to minors

Castro was optioned to Double-A Altoona on Saturday.

He makes way for Gregory Polanco (hip), who was activated from the injured list. Castro has never played at Triple-A and seems to be getting chances when the Pirates deal with injuries due to his standing on the 40-man roster. He is hitting .306/.349/.549 with 11 home runs and five steals in 49 games at Double-A.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Early-August return likely

Senzel (knee) has started doing more baseball activities but still isn't expect back until early August, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "He's still making his way, adding activities," manager David Bell said. "He's taking flyballs, taking groundballs, doing more and more... With only two weeks or so left in July, I'd expect all of those guys back in August."

Senzel is on the 60-day IL and could return as early as July 30th, but it appears to be more likely that he'll need a little more time beyond that.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Homers in loss

Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Rays.

Riley got Atlanta on the scoreboard in the fourth after blasting a two-run homer to center. He would then walk and single his next two times up. The 24-year-old has hit safely in seven of his last eight games and will need to continue to pick up some of the slack left behind by Ronald Acuna's season-ending knee injury. For the year, Riley is slashing .279/.362/.478 with 15 homers, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored and 36:91 BB:K over 359 plate appearances.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: On base three times Friday

Suarez went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and two RBI in Friday's 11-6 loss to the Brewers.

He gave the Reds a 4-1 lead in the third inning with a two-run double, but Tyler Mahle and the bullpen let it slip away. Suarez has hit a little better in July, but he's still only slashing .211/.302/.421 through 11 games on the month with two homers and eight RBI.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep again

Wisdom went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Chicago's 5-1 triumph over Arizona on Friday.

Wisdom took Matt Peacock yard to left for a valuable insurance run in the seventh but didn't do anything productive at the dish otherwise. Astoundingly enough, 13 of the corner infielder's 17 extra-base hits have left the ballpark and he sports a robust .630 slugging as a result.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Transferred to 60-day IL

Longoria (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Longoria was able to increase his baseball activity prior to the All-Star break, and the team was hoping he'd be able to return early in the second half. However, the 35-year-old will now be sidelined until at least early August following his move to the 60-day IL. It's not yet clear when the third baseman could begin a rehab assignment.

  • Jason Vosler 3B | SEA

Giants' Jason Vosler: Optioned to Triple-A

Vosler was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Vosler was recalled July 6 and wound up going 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored across five pinch-hit appearances. He'll head back to Sacramento for the time being, with Mike Tauchman (knee) being reinstated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding roster move.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Back from injured list

Davis (hand) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

It was reported Thursday that the 28-year-old traveled with the team to Pittsburgh, so it's not much of a surprise to see him make his return from the injured list. Davis could end up splitting time at third base with Jonathan Villar, who starts at the hot corner Friday.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Begins rehab assignment

Anderson (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports.

Anderson has been out since late May with a left shoulder subluxation. The long absence means he's in line for a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, especially as he's been placed on the 60-day injured list and is ineligible to return before July 25.
