  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: On bench against lefty

Moustakas will sit against Cleveland on Monday.

Moustakas and Eugenio Suarez are expected to platoon at third base down the stretch. The Reds deviated from that plan Sunday, starting Suarez at the hot corner even with righty Bryse Wilson on the mound for the Pirates, but that was presumably because they didn't want Moustakas starting three straight games immediately after returning from a long absence. Lefty Sam Hentges will be on the mound for Cleveland on Monday, so Moustakas will again sit in favor of Suarez.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Blasts fifth homer

Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Cincinnati.

The third baseman went deep in the sixth inning to cut Pittsburgh's deficit to one run, but that was as close as it got. After Hayes went 0-for-11 in three games versus Milwaukee to start the week, he ended it by going 6-for-15 across four games in Cincinnati. He's up to five homers, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .254/.322/.394 slash line across 236 plate appearances.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Takes seat Sunday

Moustakas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Moustakas returned from the 60-day injured list with a bang earlier this weekend, going 3-for-7 with three doubles, two walks, two runs and two RBI between his starts Friday and Saturday. Eugenio Suarez will get the start at third base Sunday in what likely amounts to a maintenance day for Moustakas, who should operate as the Reds' primary option at the hot corner moving forward.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Cleared to start Sunday

Segura (face) will start at second base and bat second Sunday against the Mets.

Segura was pulled late in Saturday's 5-3 win after being struck on the face by a pitch, but his presence in the lineup a day later suggests he avoided any major damage. The veteran infielder is slashing .268/.365/.451 with three home runs, one stolen base, 13 runs and 13 RBI in 22 games since the All-Star break.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Losing work to Villar at 3B

Davis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

On the bench for the third time in five games, Davis appears to have slipped behind Jonathan Villar on the depth chart at third base. Both players are expected to lose out on reps when Francisco Lindor (oblique) comes off the injured list, as Javier Baez is expected to move over to the hot corner once Lindor returns.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: On bench again

Newman remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

On the bench for the second game in a row, Newman looks like he could be at risk of moving into more of a part-time role with the Pirates eager to take a look at Hoy Park, who will enter the lineup for the fifth time in six contests as the team's leadoff hitter. Newman is slashing an unremarkable .243/.269/.330 since the beginning of July, which hasn't helped his cause for receiving regular at-bats.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Cranks 22nd home run

Arenado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in the 5-2 win over the Royals on Saturday.

Arenado slammed a solo home run off Brad Keller in the fifth inning, increasing the Cardinals' lead to two runs. It is his second homer and fifth RBI in his last three games. The 30-year-old is slashing .262/.318/.501 with a team-leading 22 long balls, 67 RBI and 52 runs in 447 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Two hits, homer

Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and RBI and two strikeouts in a 6-2 triumph over Arizona on Saturday.

Machado took Arizona starter Taylor Widener deep to left for his 21st home run of the season in the first inning and singled and scored in the eighth to put San Diego in the lead for good. It was a nice rebound performance for the All-Star third baseman, who went hitless on Friday, and he's now recorded multiple hits in four of his last 11 games.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Exits after pitch hits face

Segura exited Saturday's game against the Mets after getting hit in the face by a pitch, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Segura initially stayed in the game to run the bases, as the changeup from Yennsy Diaz grazed his face and didn't appear to do significant damage. He didn't take his place in the field to start the next inning, but was instead replaced by Luke Williams as part of a double switch. Whether or not he'll miss an extended period is not yet clear.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Not starting Saturday

Newman isn't starting Saturday's game against the Reds.

Newman had started each of the last five games, and he went 5-for-19 with two doubles, two runs, two RBI, a stolen base and two walks. Hoy Park will start at shortstop and lead off.
