  • Cubs' Ildemaro Vargas: Triples, drives in two Friday

Vargas went 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Vargas isn't typically known for his offense and batted ninth in this one, but he was able to provide a useful fantasy line. The 30-year-old had his contract selected Tuesday with the Cubs putting Nick Madrigal (back) on the injured list, and Vargas will be a depth option while Chicago deals with some injuries.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Drives in one, scores once

McMahon went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Royals.

McMahon delivered his first RBI since April 30 on a single in the fifth inning. During that 10-game drought, McMahon had only eight hits across 38 at-bats while striking out at a 34.1 percent clip. Even so, he's managed a .250/.339/.384 line to begin the season, driving in 14 and scoring 14 runs scored across 127 plate appearances.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Hits two homers

Moustakas went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo homers in Friday's 8-2 win over the Pirates.

The multi-homer game was Moustakas' first since September of 2020. He gave the Reds the lead with a solo shot off Mitch Keller in the top of the fourth inning and later capped the scoring with another homer off Heath Hembree in the seventh. He's now hitting .347 with three homers in 14 games since returning from a biceps injury in late April.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

    Phillies' Jean Segura: Resting Friday

Segura is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Segura is riding a 10-game hitting streak, homering three times and stealing a pair of bases while slashing .457/.525/.743 over that stretch. He'll get a breather Friday as Johan Camargo takes over at second base.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Not starting Friday

Longoria isn't starting Friday against the Cardinals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Longoria returned to action Wednesday against the Rockies and went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. He'll get a breather in Friday's series opener while Wilmer Flores starts at the hot corner and bats third.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Activated, starting Friday

Anderson (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list and will start at third base Friday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 28-year-old has been on the COVID-19 IL for the past week but has rejoined the Marlins after a one-game rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter. Anderson has seen most of his action at third base but has also started eight games in the outfield, and he should see most of his action at the hot corner for the foreseeable future with Joey Wendle (hamstring) moving to the 10-day IL.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Reds' Matt Reynolds: On bench Friday

Reynolds is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.

Reynolds will take a seat for the second time in the past three games after starting the previous four contests. Albert Almora enters the lineup in center field in his absence with Mike Moustakas shifting to the hot corner and Tyler Naquin handling DH.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Hitless in debut

Castro went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Thursday against the Reds.

Castro was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to Thursday's game and started at shortstop while hitting ninth. It was his first appearance in the big leagues this season, though he accrued 93 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in 2021 and posted a .198/.258/.395 line. Cole Tucker was optioned in the corresponding move, so Castro should be able to find playing time at second base and shortstop until Kevin Newman (groin) is activated from the injured list.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Swipes bag in win

Segura went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base in Thursday's 9-7 win against the Dodgers.

Segura's second-inning double extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he subsequently stole third base before coming home on a Kyle Schwarber single. During the hitting streak, the veteran infielder is slashing .457/.525/.743 with three homers, six RBI, 10 runs and two stolen bases.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Huge game Wednesday

Baty had his biggest game of the year for Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, a walk, two RBI and three runs. He's now hitting .283/.372/.455 with two homers and 11 doubles across 27 games.

It's good to see Baty hit the ball over the fence, as his only other long ball came in Binghamton's season opener April 8. It's also encouraging to see him go a game without striking out, which is only the fifth time this season he's been able to do so. Despite that, Baty has a solid season line, as he's hitting a bit better than he did in his first taste of Double-A last season. To punch his ticket to the big leagues, though, Baty's going to have to translate his tremendous raw power to game action far more often. That said, there's nothing wrong with his all-fields approach, and Baty is hitting far more line drives and fly balls than he did last year, which is promising.
