  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Sitting with low back tightness

Arenado isn't starting Saturday's game against the Reds due to low back tightness, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Arenado has been dealing with a back issue for several weeks and won't play in the All-Star Game as a result. He hopes to return to the lineup Sunday against the Reds, but Brendan Donovan is starting at third base and batting sixth Saturday.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Power surge continues

Riley went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 8-4 win over the Nationals.

Riley's gone yard eight times in 15 games in July, slashing a blistering .403/.439/.871 over that stretch with 17 RBI, and he now sits two homers behind Kyle Schwarber's 28 for the National League lead while pacing the NL in total bases with 201. After initially being snubbed for the All-Star Game, Riley was named a replacement for Nolan Arenado (back).

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: On bench Sunday

Muncy is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Muncy is 1-for-23 with a double, two RBI, two runs and 11 strikeouts over his past eight games, though he's also walked seven times during that stretch. Justin Turner will shift to third base while catcher Will Smith rests his legs as the designated hitter against southpaw Patrick Sandoval.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Making good progress

Segura (finger) is making good progress, hitting in the cage and fielding grounders, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Segura has been on the shelf since fracturing his right index finger in late May. Throwing remains an issue for him, and he remains without a clear timetable for his return, but it's certainly positive to see him trending in the right direction.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Swipes second bag

Newman went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Thursday against the Marlins.

Newman has served as Pittsburgh's leadoff hitter in four of the team's last five games -- each of which has come against lefties. He has been productive in that span, collecting six hits in 19 at-bats to go along with two RBI, a run scored and his second stolen base of the year. In particular, his ability to be aggressive on the basepaths is encouraging given that he just returned from a groin injury July 9.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Beginning rehab assignment

Longoria (oblique) is beginning a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Longoria will serve as the designated hitter Thursday but could return to playing third base Friday. If he responds well to playing in the field, he could be activated from the injured list as early as Saturday's matchup with the Brewers.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Goes on COVID-19-related IL

The Reds placed Moustakas on the COVID-19-related injured list Thursday.

Moustakas becomes the third Reds player to land on the COVID-19-related IL, joining catcher Aramis Garcia and outfielder Albert Almora. With the Yankees bringing lefty Nestor Cortes to the hill Thursday, the lefty-hitting Moustakas was already scheduled to sit out the Reds' final game in New York, but his move to the IL now puts him at risk of missing the entire three-game series in St. Louis this weekend. Infielder/outfielder Max Schrock was called up from Triple-A Louisville to replace Moustakas on the active roster.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Idle against lefty

Moustakas is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

With southpaw Nestor Cortes on the mound, the Reds will move two of their key left-handed bats in Moustakas and Tyler Naquin to the bench. Donovan Solano and Stuart Fairchild will replace Moustakas and Naquin in the lineup at designated hitter and in right field, respectively.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Returns to lineup

Senzel (back) is starting Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Senzel was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to mid-back stiffness but appeared off the bench and was picked off. He'll start in center field and bat eighth in Thursday's series finale.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Riding pine Thursday

McMahon isn't starting Thursday's game against San Diego.

McMahon is getting a day off after he went 4-for-14 with a triple, two runs, a stolen base, two walks and two strikeouts over the last four games. Garrett Hampson will take over at third base and bat ninth.
