  • Padres' Manny Machado: Knocks three hits

Machado went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Nearly all of Machado's production came in the first inning, when he doubled in a run and came around to score. It's been a tough start for the perennial All-Star; he's slashing just .252/.303/.389 through 142 plate appearances. However, Machado has gone 12-for-33 (.363) with five extra-base hits and nine runs scored over his last eight games.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Not in Sunday's lineup

Candelario (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The 29-year-old experienced dehydration after Friday's matchup with Arizona and was held out of Saturday's starting nine, and he won't rejoin the lineup for Sunday's series finale. According to Zuckerman, Candelario is feeling much better and should be available to pinch hit Sunday, and he is also expected to start Monday in San Francisco.

Davis is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Brewers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Davis went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk while starting the past three games and will take a seat for Sunday's contest. Wilmer Flores will man the hot corner in the series finale against Milwaukee.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Starting again Sunday

Madrigal is starting at third base and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

For the second straight day, Madrigal gets the start at third with Patrick Wisdom on the bench. The latter has a .590 OPS over his past 12 contests, though he does have a team-high 11 home runs. Madrigal has better contact and base-stealing skills, so it will be interesting to watch what the Cubs prioritize moving forward.

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Not starting again Sunday

Wisdom is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Wisdom has a .590 OPS over his past 12 contests and will take a seat for the second straight game. Nick Madrigal went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run during Saturday's game and will start at third base again Sunday.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Gets D-backs on board

Rivera started at third base and went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-7 win over Washington.

Rivera got the start ahead of Evan Longoria against a lefty and gave Arizona an early lead with a first-inning homer. He's starting against lefties -- at third base, first base and DH in the last week -- and hit safely in all games started since his call-up from Triple-A Reno. Overall, he's batting .423 (.455 BABIP) with one home run, two doubles, five RBI and five runs scored. There isn't a full-time role for Rivera, but he should be safe to stay in MLB for now after coming up as a replacement for struggling outfielder Jake McCarthy.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Ends power drought Saturday

Arenado went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Tigers.

He took Spencer Turnbull deep in the fifth inning, giving the Cardinals a 5-3 lead that the pitching staff couldn't protect. Arenado snapped a 20-game homer drought in the process, a stretch in which he stumbled to a .190/.238/.215 slash line. The veteran third baseman has reached base safely in six straight games however, going 6-for-24 with three walks and a double in addition to Saturday's home run. He hasn't yet regained his 2022 form, but there could be light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Dehydrated Saturday

Candelario, who is out of Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, was diagnosed with dehydration after he fell ill Friday night, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Candelario went to the hospital for precautionary tests but is expected to be at the game Saturday, although he is likely unavailable. This is the first game he has missed all season and he should be considered day-to-day.

Reynolds was with the team for a week while Wil Myers was on the COVID-19 injured list, but he didn't make much of an impact. Reynolds started just once and went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts overall. He'll exit the roster with Myers now healthy.
