  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Collects two hits Thursday

Candelario went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's 12-1 loss to the Twins.

The 23-year-old third baseman collected a third of the team's hits and its only RBI in a forgettable game. While the Tigers have been miserable lately, Candelario has been producing, as he's now got a .294/.385/.471 slash line. He should be the Opening Day starter at third in 2018, and he's definitely a young player worth watching.

  • Orioles' Manny Machado: Launches 33rd home run despite illness

Machado went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Rays.

Machado's two-run shot in the first inning made it 2-0 before Rays starter Matt Andriese could record a single out. The star slugger was almost kept out of the lineup due to an illness, but manager Buck Showalter's decision to dress Machado paid off big time in what ended as a two-run victory. While a slow start had the infielder slashing just .238/.306/.426 back on July 29, Machado's season line is up to .264/.318/.487 now.

  • Orioles' Manny Machado: '50-50' to play Thursday

Machado (illness) is in the lineup, but could be scratched following a pregame workout as manager Buck Shower said he's only "50-50" to play Thursday against Tampa Bay, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.

Although Machado was initially plugged into Baltimore's lineup, it appears as though it's up in the air as to whether he will actually stay there. The third baseman missed Wednesday's game due to an illness, but is hitting second at his normal position for Thursday's contest. There will likely be an update regarding his status within the next hour.

  • Orioles' Manny Machado: Back in action Thursday

Machado (illness) is in the lineup Thursday against the Rays.

Machado is back in the starting nine after missing Wednesday's game due to an illness. The third baseman will return to his typical position and bat second in the order for the series opener.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Indians' Jose Ramirez: Receives day off Thursday

Ramirez is not in the lineup against the Angels on Thursday.

Ramirez will head to the bench following two straight starts, which came on the heels of a minor hamstring injury that forced the 25-year-old to miss a pair of games. The infielder is likely going to receive a few games off here and there leading up to the playoffs over the next couple weeks. In his place, Erik Gonzalez will man the keystone while batting ninth for the series finale.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Enjoying road trip

Moncada went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Astros.

Moncada stayed hot on the White Sox's current road trip. He's 17-for-41 (.415) with three home runs, a triple and eight RBI in the first nine games of the 10-game trip. Manager Rick Renteria told Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune that Moncada is getting a better handle on off-speed pitches while teammate and fellow Cuban Jose Abreu cited Moncada's use of lighter bats as a reason why the rookie's hitting has suddenly taken off.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Royals' Mike Moustakas: Rips 37th homer among three hits

Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a double, his 37th homer and a pair of runs scored against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

After seeing his 2016 cut short by injury, Moustakas has largely been making up for lost time this year, but he'd actually gone 15 games (plus another two spent entirely on the bench) without going yard before breaking that skid Wednesday. In fact, he's homered just thrice over the course of a slump that's consumed his last 33 contests; still, that can be chalked up to bad luck more than a bad approach, so fantasy owners shouldn't be considering benching the powerful third baseman.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Slated for first instructional league action

Duffy (heel) will join the Rays' instructional league team Thursday and is scheduled to play his first game Monday in Bradenton, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy will thus take his first step toward eventually stepping on a major-league field next spring after missing all of the 2017 campaign. Following his instructional league tenure, he's scheduled to also put in time in winter ball, with both stints intended to thoroughly prepare him to participate in spring training without restrictions.

  • Orioles' Manny Machado: Out with illness

Machado, who is out of the Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox, is dealing with an illness, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

He is 3-for-29 (.103) over his last eight games, and it is unclear exactly when the illness popped up. It sounds like he is just day-to-day. Ryan Flaherty will start at the hot corner and hit ninth.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Bregman is not in the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox.

Bregman will receive a rare night off Wednesday and give way to Marwin Gonzalez at third base. Bregman, who's hit .279 with an .809 OPS over 144 games this season, figures to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the White Sox.
