  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Collects three hits Friday

Moncada went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 8-6 win over the Orioles.

Moncada had been dealing with a sore hip leading up to Friday's game, but apparently Thursday's off day was the right remedy. This was his fourth multi-hit game in the last 13, a stretch in which he's hitting .313 (15-for-48) with a 22.6 strikeout percentage. For the league leader in strikeouts (196), that strikeout rate is a great improvement on his season-long 33.1 K%.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Astros' J.D. Davis: Fills in for Springer

Davis entered Friday's game after George Springer left with a shoulder injury and grounded out in his lone plate appearance.

Davis played left field while Marwin Gonzalez slid from left to center. We would normally see Tony Kemp ahead of Davis, but he had been used as a pinch hitter earlier. If Springer sits out Saturday's game, expect Kemp, not Davis, to be in the starting lineup.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Indians' Josh Donaldson: Launches first homer with new club

Donaldson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Donaldson went deep in the sixth inning to tie the ballgame 2-2, but the Tigers would pull ahead in the seventh and bring home the victory. Since being traded from the Blue Jays to the Indians on Aug. 31, the 32-year-old has gone 2-for-9 with two strikeouts and a home run. He figures to see scheduled days off down the stretch of the regular season in order to get him back into game shape.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Blasts leadoff home run in win

Candelario went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Friday's win over the Indians.

Candelario got the game started on a good note for the Tigers, as he took Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin deep to lead off the top of the first inning. The 24-year-old also doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh. Candelario is still batting just .228 this season, but his 19 home runs in 495 at-bats are encouraging, and he could be primed for another step forward in his development in 2019.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Returns to lineup

Segura (illness) will play shortstop and bat second Friday against the Angels, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Segura had been battling an illness, but he'll make an appearance in the starting nine after missing three straight games. He's off to a 6-for-32 start through eight games in September.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Leading off Friday

Moncada (hip) will lead off and start at second base against the Orioles on Friday.

Moncada was out of Wednesday's lineup as he dealt with a sore hip, but appears good to go following Thursday's scheduled off day. The 23-year-old is slashing .243/.300/.270 with 10 strikeouts in 37 at-bats since the start of September.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Returns to lineup Friday

Duffy (back) is back in the lineup Friday against the Athletics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy missed three straight starts with back tightness, though he did make an appearance as a pinch hitter Tuesday. He'll bat second and play third base Friday.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Enters for hurting Nunez

Devers entered Thursday's game for an injured Eduardo Nunez (knee) and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Devers was held out of the starting lineup for the third time in the last four games, but should be in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Mets while Nunez is day-to-day heading into the weekend. The homer was Devers' 17th of the season, but just the third since July 1. It's been a learning season for the third baseman, who has run into a sophomore slump after a promising rookie campaign. A couple of injuries derailed him over the past month, but even before that, he battled inconsistency at the plate and leads all third basemen with 22 errors, with advanced defensive metrics to match (-3.8 UZR, -11 DRS). "He missed not a few steps, a lot of steps, as far as like player development," manager Alex Cora told Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald while noting Xander Bogaerts and Andrew Benintendi went through similar introductions to the majors. "They've been through situations like that. Get called up early in their careers, and all of a sudden they're not playing, or there's struggles. He has a few mentors down there. The good thing is about him, he listens. He listens to them."

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: May be available to pinch hit

Segura (illness) will do some fielding drills prior to Thursday's game against the Angels, and he could be deployed as a pinch hitter in the series opener, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Segura has been dealing with an illness that has held him out for the past three contests, although given that he's planning on participating in some field work, it doesn't appear overly serious. Expect the 28-year-old to return to the starting nine sometime over the weekend.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Out again Thursday

Segura (illness) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Angels, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Segura will stick on the bench for a third straight game as he continues nurse an illness. The severity of the illness remains unclear, leaving his potential return date up in the air. Dee Gordon is covering shortstop in this one, with Robinson Cano sliding over to the keystone and Ryon Healy picking up a start at first base.
